I'm not c......d so how would I know. Exactly! When I was a kid black people would take offence at being called black. I don’t know what this country is coming to. I knew he was history as soon as I heard what he had said but it just astounds me frankly.

The bloke is obviously just out of touch with how things have changed regards acceptable terminology in public life, and perhaps this suggests his own views are behind the times - a bit surprising considering his position, and particularly considering the subject matter - "diversity". I have to say though that when I saw clips of him speaking on the news earlier this evening, and was warned of offensive language, I was a bit underwhelmed as I expected something a bit more damning. But I can see that in the current climate he had little choice but ask for his P45. I don't think there was any intention to offend but he was just clumsily showing that he hasn't really grasped how dialogue about these issues has moved on, but the full cancelling treatment would be a bit harsh.

On all discussions about diversity, racism blm etc older people, and I've stated this cannot change subconciously how they feel or how they were bought up. Together with the language they use. Racism or non PC chat will die with them. They should be cut some slack at times and this is one of those times.

Clumsy and out of touch, especially considering the point of the conversation at hand. But the actual intent of what he was trying to say wasn't negative or discriminatory and I do believe that should count for something. Our lefty BBC made the mistake of inviting John Barnes to be interviewed and he said that it was quite ridiculous that the bloke lost his job over using an old fashioned word as it should have been the intent that mattered and quite obviously there was no ill intent. The BBC newsreader tried his hardest to get Barnes to say that it was quite right that he should lose his job but the more he said it the more that John Barnes dug in. The newsreader also asked Barnes if he felt that having a more up to date Chairman might help black footballers achieve equality whereupon Barnes replied that black players had plenty of equality and you only had to look at the England team to see that whereupon the newsreader gave up

Every generation has some form of group think which future generations are "disgusted" by. Who knows how the current politically correct crop will fair in 20 years time? Already we have seen feminists icons such as Germaine Greer falling foul over the Trsn issue and being de-platformed.. As JB said it was about intent and it was clear no ill will was intended so let the man apologise and move on. I am more interested in why Greg Clarke has failed to take leadership responsibility for the financial crisis in the lower leagues and staying silent whilst the big 6 trying to hijack the game.

On the use of "coloured" term, I think this is unfair. Whilst I was told not to say coloured when I was younger, anyone tuning into the news will have seen American's use the term "people of colour" again, and again, and again. I don't think it's that bad, and groups like Kick it Out will lose credibility if that's what they jump on. On sexuality, his comments are worse, but again, I think he was trying to say that he won't force a player to open up about their private life. Badly worded and a difficult subject. Whilst it shouldn't matter who a player is dating, if a footballer comes out as gay, they will automatically be on the front and back pages of every paper as a roll model and constantly talked about... who really wants that much attention other than David Beckham. About girls wanting to play in goal, he's might have a point about 8 year olds. Again, clumsy wording. It seems like these are difficult conversations to have. He has messed up what he was trying to say, but how are we going to address problems, when people are so intolerant of mistakes. All this seems to do is put people off discussing issues.

we now have Mings saying that we " should have a black chairman as it would be a huge step to equality ." I hope he means any person of colour in this statement .

I heard the BBC interview a female England footballer who’s gay and I’ve never heard of before. I think she might be the captain? Looking at the action videos she dyes her hair at any possibility. She was asked about the USA elections (after CNN announced they think Biden has won) and she said ‘’We need to PUT more black and gay people at the top of politics.’’ Yes she’s just a footballer and not a political expert, but it’s more equality of outcome rather than opportunity again. ‘Put more in’? With regards to the young girls comment, wasn't he just repeating what a woman football coach had told him?
