Don't think Parker has dealt with it well. The problem with Panekas is you do look stupid when they go wrong but that shouldn't effect whether you take them or not. If Lookman regular takes penalties in training using Panekas and more conventional penalties and consistently scores more with Panekas then he should go with that regardless of whether he will look stupid if he misses.

Stupid penalty given the situation of the game, he deserves everything he gets. A bit like letting Benteke take a penalty when we really need to score... oh hold on a minute! The flash penalties are better when you are already two up with 5 mins to play.

Have never had faith in this type of penalty, taker is gambling that the keeper will dive one way or the other. Having said that Lookman did scuff the turf before connecting with the ball which made it look such a terrible penalty, had he not caught the turf chances are he would have scored and everybody would be saying how cool he was under pressure. I do feel for the guy, that will be going through his mind for days.

Keepers always dive, especially with stoppage time penalties - fans would be in uproar if the keeper didn’t move and striker slotted to his left or right ha. On the penalty, people saying ‘smash it’ but plenty of players miss penalties by smashing it, they too can miss hit the ball on the strike or the keeper could save it. It’s just less common to see a panenka so it’s talked about more. Smash it reeks off no control and nerves. Give me Lookmans cool/calm approach everytime at the spot.

The point I'm making is that you need to let a player take a penalty in the way he is most confident and most likely to score. If that is something he does regularly and well in training then that is the way to take it, if he thinking about his youtube clips video then he needs talking to, but in private.

I think the problem was really in execution, a muddled mind as he ran up. If you’re going to do it, do it properly and it will work most times.

I don’t know, but as a goalkeeper coach for the opposition I tell him to stand still if he does that most of the time and he’ll save 19 out of 20
