Wish people would stop calling the Premier League the 'EPL' It is the PL not to be confused with the EFL ..

Good article from Martin Samuel makes a couple of points I hadn't considered. If I was an EFL club I would be furious at Rick Parry. He is supposed to be fighting for their rights. Before he made his very public announcement of support did he discuss any of this with the 72? His behaviour smacks of of being the chief spokesman for the big 6 does he want his old job back? Anyway if you can keep your blood from boiling worth a read Samuel has some excellent criticisms.

The rich clubs have been destroying our game for many many years, they've been feeding themselves on any up and coming star player they like and running first place in the media and betting shops, It is everything I hate about everything. ..and don't mention fucking southampton. Football strangling itself. Multi millionaires running round empty stadiums. You can keep it. I had great years. Real bovril ( not the powder palace sell now). Pipes. Hooligans terraces unreal atmosphere. All gone. I hope the top 6 break away. Then cap wages at £10 k a week. Go back to local players. All the foreigners will be gone. Might even get fans back. As it is now it’s over.

If this comes to pass then me and football part ways. The bit I truly struggle with is how the play-offs would have to now include the 16th placed team in the Premier League. Absolutely shocking proposal amongst a whole host of s*** housery.

Good point whilst I despise the big 6 I suspect that many of their fans will not support this and hopefully they are not as greedy as the club owners. Do the big 6 fans really want a competition that is so slanted in their favour and prevents other clubs from growing? Do they really want to watch Man United versus Barcelona each week? I hope they they can do the rest of football a favour by loudly complaining to their clubs.

With the lack of news at the moment there's going to be loads of sensationalism around this story. A few years ago the Times ran a April fools article about how the premiership was going to switch to an NFL style northern and southern section with playoffs to boost entertainment. They know this story sells papers. It's in the national team and big clubs interests to make the premier league smaller. 38 games a season is too much and it effects european and international performances. Something has got to be done to pass money down to the lower leagues. I'd like to think that the majority of premier league owners do understand that ringfencing the premier league will detract from the excitement and value of their product so they won't do anything to drastic. This initial proposal is likely to be a mixture of posturing by the premiership and exageration by the media. Having said that, I don't want to see the size of the league reduced as it decreases the chances of us getting relegated. and, I'm not sure broadcasters and sponsors would be happy to have the number of games reduced plus grounds like Old Trafford bring in millions of pounds per game. I'm not sure their accountants would like to lose two home matches.

The season would start later as well this is all so the big 6 can play their mickey mouse games in Asia the players wont be getting a rest just less competitive games. I just checked a Man United fan site they love the idea of reducing the league and more TV money for them and they completely gloss over the voting rights. I hope they are not a representative bunch.

Many clubs in the lower leagues need a cash injection to help them over the latest hurdles, people have been talking about £250 million - the PL top 6 + 3 hangers on have come up with a plan whereby they agree to make it happen + 100 million for the FA - They seem to be saying, we will do this but these are our terms - I am not in the know but I dont think anyone else involved at Footballs higher levels of administration has come up with an alternative plan - so if we accept that the clubs lower down really do need this money & are prepared to a deal on a "money now" basis I would assume that football admin needs to come up with a counter proposal - my guess is that somewhere between the 2 plans someone will negotiate a deal - but quite honestly it feels like its going to be difficult to live with for clubs like ours.
