Matov, domestic violence isn't a feminist issue, many males suffer it. A tiny percentage. When was the last time a man was murdered by an abusive wife? I am not saying that women on man domestic violence does not occur but I am saying that a man has many, many more options when it comes to either fighting back or making the decision to move on. And for me, domestic violence and its massive disproportionately impact on women is the most pressing feminist issue of all time. When I see equal numbers of men being murdered by their wives/partners then I will accept that perhaps this is more a societal issue than one of gender. Men need to face up to being proper men and if they let a woman make their lives a misery then they need to grow a pair pretty quickly. Men have choices that women do not.

Murder is illegal. There is no gender difference. The same for assault and mental abuse. If we ever see equal numbers of men murdered by their wives/partners as women, then we are truely in a bad place. That men kill more wives/partners is only a reflection of how many murders are committed by men overall. The emboldened sentence is the only thing that feminists should have an issue with.

In the UK an average of 2 women per week are killed as a result of domestic violence compared to around 30 men per year. Now that figure surprised me because I assume it would be higher (willing to concede that) but the reality is still a massively disproportionate number. If it was 50-50 then I might be able to accept that it was not a feminist issue but until then, no. And it would be interesting to find out how many of those men were abusers themselves, with their deaths being a case of self-protection.

What is the average of murders by men/women? Also the self protection works both ways, with many men not admitting to it because of shame. Or as you put it, the "need to man up". While we should definitely make room for men to open up when attacked by women - and it should be taken seriously - the power disparity between men and women will absolutely always mean that we should have a focus on protecting women in situations of domestic violence, because disproportionately they will be coming out of the situation with the wounds that do not heal, or worse.
