Too right. Basically the issue with the engineered Oak is that it looks like a laminate but costs a bomb. 'quick step ' laminate / flooring is pretty good.

B&Q and Wickes both do a laminate that has a textured wood finish, which looks and feels much nicer than the bog standard shiny laminate, and it's only a little more expensive. I'd recommend the foam underlay as it's considerable quieter than the wood fibre stuff. I accidentally bought some of the latter and thought it wouldn't make much difference but it sounds like a herd of horses galloping around when someone is in the upstairs bedroom
