I was there. In the Homesdale. Then the United lot started lobbing bricks down on us from up the back. Was like a war zone. But we thrashed them. It was certainly a brilliant game.

Alan and Don Rogers were a formidable forward attacking force in the early/mid -70s. Great days to remember. And there was another wee feller from Millwall Derek Possee, but he didn't last long. Not a lot of heading scope with Whittle and Possee! Edited by Jamesey (10 Mar 2020 11.49pm)

remember watching all of those mentioned. He was. Scored twice on his debut (Beat Sheffield Utd 5-1) and looked a real find then hurt his knee and never seemed to properly get over it.

And of course he silenced the crowd at Sunderland in the FA Cup with the goal which led to the chants of "The Roker roar is no more". I do hope he had an enjoyable birthday. Just the walking towards the ground was much more fun then, my dad always waited at the end of the game and we'd all be listening to his radio until there was only about ten people left in the stadium and then we'd have an easy walk and drive home, really good days then ..so so much different now.

I recall the bygone days after the game when supporters used to walk alongside chaps with transistor radios tuned into football stations so that these supporters could hear the results. How times have changed.
