Plus RLC if Fulham fail to stay up would be progress IMO

If on a 'free' then OK but I'd sooner splash out and get in RLC at whatever Chelsea want for him. He exudes class and be the creative midfielder that our current captain is obviously not.

If beyond our means then a loan - but we desperately need midfield quality.

I agree with you about RLC plus also Gallagher, the fly in the anointment is Bats. I doubt Chelsea will be doing us any favours when we send him back at the end of the season having only played him in a handful of games.

Lundstram on a free with decent wages is a good signing IMO.

He's not necessarily an improvement on the overall squad but I'd rather look at it as a younger, less injury-prone McCarthy replacement

Followed him a bit since he was mentioned for us. A decent midfielder, good passing with an eye for goal. For free - a no-brainer!

Oh my Lombardo! Joking, surely.

I refer you to MOTD highlights last night. Get it up on BBC iplayer and watch from 36' 18" and you will see how committed this player is.

Firstly, loses a challenge in midfield, which is where the build-up for the 2nd goal begins.

Then, look at him ambling back, just watchingand strolling as the opponent with the ball surges towards the area.

Watch as he spectates all the following goalmouth incident, whilst in the area himself.

Watch him totally ball-watch as a player he could be covering gets behind without him even noticing/caring.

Watch as the ball finds him on the edge of the box, where he gives the ball away with a lazy, terrible attempt to pass the ball out.

As the ball balloons up, see how he makes absolutely no attempt to close the scorer down but stands there, with his arm raised for some unfathomable reason.

If I saw him play like that in a Palace shirt, I'd want him sacked.

Unprofessional.

Firstly, that sounds like what we've seen half of this season and plenty of last. Secondly, he might know he's off and know Sheffield are relegated. It is unprofessional but somewhat understandable. What's Benteke's excuse? I guarantee he's not on that kind of wages either.

I'm sorry but it is not understandable at all. Even if you know you're on your way, you are a professional and should act like it.

This attitude tells me to steer a million miles away from this player.

Agree. We can do better than simply replicate our existing midfielders

If he's not better than ours, he must have broken a leg or two. Surely for free, he can do a job?
The Gallagher ones make me laugh. Are we going to pay 30 mil for him? Loftus Cheek similar frankly but more realistic as at least we know him. Our usual two years to sign a player means we could try to get Loftus Cheek. And I say try, because we would need to haggle.
Lundstram would be a squad player for us. He may not be brilliant, but probably better than Luka and Reidewald. We could also get the Turkish midfielder we've been after for a year, then perhaps a youngster like Flynn Downes, maybe transfer, maybe loan.
That would drastically help our squad and not break the bank. It would also fit in with what we do.

As we know with Meyer and others, 'free' doesn't mean free. There will be a significant signing on fee (some of) which presumably will be paid as part of his wages so that he becomes yet another player om an inflated salary and who at the age of 27 won't have too many years in him. I do wonder whether he is simply after a final lucrative pay deal which once he gets he'll be happy to bench warm.

I thought the idea was a move to younger players who are hungry to show what they can do (and possibly move on to bigger things in a few years - but at least we'd get some money for them when they go).

As for Gallagher, I don't see us buying him. Much more likely to loan him (if Chelsea ever forgive us for not playing Bats) with possibly an option to buy. Can't see him staying at Baggies - he'll want PL minutes. RLC may well make his move to Fulham permanent if they manage to stay up (and I think they will).

I suspect it will be the Turkish guy if he wants to come. As for Downes, he's been on the bench at Ipswich in recent games which doesn't bode well.
