I can see the motivation for the Americans. It had a lot of Canadians on board. We might never find out about this one. Neither the Iranians or Americans will be too keen to elaborate I would imagine.

Truth needs knowing as 1000s of these jets are flying.

The Iranian regime will do their utmost to persuade they were not responsible (if they were) as, I suspect, given the number of Iranians killed, civil war is just around the corner

Hanging on to the black box isn't exactly going to strengthen the Iranians hand in the matter.

Blame for later actions isn't placed on an original act.....Quite rightly people are held accountable for actions that they themselves took.....not for something else done later on by someone else. OK, so Iran might have shot the plane down So Iran's retribution for the General's murder now includes 60 Iranian mourners and a few hundred airplane passengers. And i thought trump was a fck-wit,...

Looks like the heightened defence situation caused by the killing of Solemeini has caused a terrible accident - i.e. the air defences at or near the airport have been switched on and shot down 166 Iranian/Canadian people by mistake. Including the stampede at the General's funeral the human cost of taking out Soleimani is now over 250 people who 10 days ago were innocently going about their day to day lives. Very sad. Taking out 1 guy who is the head of a very organised state army isn't going to change anything - even ISIS have welcomed his death, however anyone who thinks that only Soleimani was working on new ways to attack different targets and that he wasn't doing it with close associates is a fool. Will his death and the way it happened stop his successors from continuing to plan and implement such attacks? We will have to wait and see. A real 100% mess that has not made the World any safer - all the travel advices for foreign nationals in the region speak of heightened threats to US and UK Nationals, so no one is any safer, in fact we are more at risk than before. In my opinion, living in a neighbouring country - there was no real upside to the killing of Soleimani - and there are 250 deaths that can be linked to it to prove that. The hardliners in the US camp I think are wrong - look what they did to Iraq. Originally posted by Forest Hillbilly

Sure, I can see the argument where people criticise Trump for his actions but when they start blaming Trump for their actions.......You know that what's true doesn't really matter does it. It's like a loopy ex girlfriend who blames you for her actions.....'Well, if you hadn't broken up with me, I wouldn't have slapped your mother'. It's all quite incredible. Iran has a truly awful regime.....You can be hung for adultery or homosexuality and up to 2012 they hung children and lashings with the whip are common. That General played his part in the murder of hundreds of Iranian protestors and has murdered many innocents. Yet, apparently if you don't like Trump.....What's far more important is your pettiness.
