Whoever it is who rates Coldplay they’re not Palace supporters anyway.

They were supporting Paul Weller in NYC around 9/10 years ago. The lead singer of OCS tried to score drugs off me in a bar I worked in at the time. t***!!

That’s rock and roll I guess!!! They weren’t unknown obviously but they got put to the back of the queue in that whole Britpop era... Any other time they would of stormed it!!

I didn’t actually know only until a few years ago that the lead singer Simon Fowler was gay... He tells a very funny story about one of the Spice Girls trying to shag him in the 90s!!

I thought they'd been plugging away with no success in the early 90's and it was touring with Oasis and the rise of Britpop that made them.

Gotta be The Police for the most overrated band ever and I agree with Coldplay, also add Ed Sheeran and the Spice Girls.

The Spice Girls weren't a band though, they were a manufactured product

Yeah, I think there’s a difference between ‘overrated’ and ‘popular’. Coldplay are massive but in the same way pop stars are. No one who’s into bands rates them.

Overrated usually equates to massively successful, underrated usually means cult/obscure/no sales
On that basis Blur, Oasis, Coldplay, U2 etc. Never understood their appeal.
Underrated:
Josh Rouse
Wedding Present
British Sea Power

Surely if "overrated usually equates to massively successful" then they aren't overrated at all but merely called that by people that don't like them.

Underrated by your definition means bands that are unsuccessful, presumably because no-one likes them and I've never heard of any of the three bands that you mentioned so presume that they have found their natural level

Agreed. The thread asked who are the most overrated bands, not which currently unsuccessful bands deserve a break.

It's hard to be objective as all the bands I don't like I also think are overrated and there are whole genres of music I don't get but others think are fantastic.

Overrated
Michael Jackson
U2
Bob Dylan (great song writer though)
Fatboy Slim
