If they do something offensive or against the 'woke' brigade and agenda they are instantly attacked and no longer booked by the main outlets. Pretty much as this guy says. Edited by Stirlingsays (05 Nov 2019 10.51pm) Sadowitz decided years ago that tv wasn’t for him. He’s also very protective of his material and gets it removed from YouTube, etc. And Chris Morris seems to have backed away.

Not so much bothered by the political correctness element but more the blatant hypocrisy when certain comedians get slated yet others, such as Frankie Boyle, get away with some truly awful stuff because they make all the right noises about other bits and pieces. I tend to view myself as on the far end of the libertarian scale when it comes to free speech but even I balked at the comments he made about Katie Price and her son. Her, then fair game. She plays the publicity game and therefore is in the firing line but the kid? No. There are lines in the sand and that should have been a definite one. Although to be fair to Harvey, his performance one morning on breakfast TV puts him in a league far above that sweaty t*** when it comes to making me laugh out loud.

You’re right, there are some subjects about which everybody thinks joking is inappropriate. The difference is that some of us just shrug and move on whilst others think they should scream their outrage from the rooftops and try to shut down the person telling the joke.

A few years back on Hol someone made a joke about spikes and babies. I wasn't amused. However, I didn't complain I just moved on.....people say stuff.....there are words and there are actions. I'm far more upset and offended by the manner in which plenty allow doctors to flush away and sometimes tear apart real babies like some kind of biological waste.......so 'hurty' words are on a level so low compared to that.....that the comparison is an actual joke. So when somebody thinks that their morality has to be the standard by which others, like comedians, are made to adhere to.....I have to smile. Oh and I have to occur with the sentiments expressed over Frankie Boyle....plenty of inappropriate jokes but I'm never going to support banning him....even though he's often unpleasant and often completely against what I believe in.

I would not want him 'banned' but it is clear that because he falls in line with most of the social liberal orthodoxy of the day, he gets a pass in terms of 'outrage' when he does step over a line. Look at the reaction when people dared question what that Swedish girl was up to based on nothing more than her youth yet Boyle appears to get away with mocking a disabled kid in what is perhaps one of the foulest of ways possible given what he alluded to in the 'joke'. It is that hypocrisy which riles the most.

When I grew up comedians were anti establishment and stood for free speech and were against restrictions on just about anything. Now I'm not a fan of the affect that 'liberal' values has had on the west but I can at least respect the core of intent it had for free speech. Look at the affect political correctness has now had.....Look at the s***e that's on your TV screens nowadays. The left use to produce genuinely great comedians but now they have drawn boundaries on what can be said in a fashion that those comedians of the past would have found far more shocking that what the righteous right could do. Here's a video where Sargon talks to Alistair Williams, a comedian who is fighting back against the comedy establishment.
When are you going to start being funny?

In the past I’ve tried some dark comedy and learned pretty quickly to not try it around work people after work. Some think it’s hilarious and check their laughter but it’s not worth it. Shame because there’s so many opportunities. Around the right people it’s still good but it would be better if the softer souls and bigger audience could hack it rather than thinking you’re 100% twisted or as bad as Harold Shipman and avoid you.

I find if anything, many of the new comedians these days seem to be more self righteous, save the planet, pc correct loonies than anyone else. The likes of Nish Kumar, Sara Pascoe, Aisling Bea etc seem to spend half their life telling us how to live and how terrible half the population are rather than telling a joke. As an aside to comedians, nothing irks me more than people like Vicky Pattison who got famous by getting poled on tv whilst off their face and getting into fights non stop, bang on about how we should all love each other and be labelled 'brave' for posting a photo with no makeup on once a month.

mezzer Main Stand, Block F, Row 20 seat 1... 06 Nov 19 9.42am | |

I was in the Komedia once and this Geordie bloke came on last. He wasn't really funny (I thought) but he had the audience literally falling off their seats laughing when he was doing his Thatcher routine. Then he turned it around and started doing anti PC stuff (against the PC crowd, not by doing tasteless gags). The change in atmosphere was remarkable and the same ones that were helpless with mirth at the Thatcher jokes were suddenly booing and shouting out "Shame" at the same bloke. It was quite weird really.
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |

I even went to the gym once in Bromley - a proper el cheapo gym - and she was in there shooting a fitness video. I can't escape it!
