Until now, I've never heard the word 'brass' used to mean a prostitute (let's not mince words). In my 'north Kent' circles, a brass was an older lady who liked to doll herself up in a style perhaps suiting one a bit younger. More often than not it would be used to refer to a northerner. A classic fictional example is Bet Lynch from Coronation Street. "She's a right northern brass, that one!"
