Therefore 2 or more formations per match depending on the score and where the ball is (that just stays the same right now). Interesting that MOTD2 had us as 4-3-3. I can’t remember the players but it might’ve been your lineup with Benteke instead of Ayew. I think it would work well both offensively and defensively - with the ball, we have Meyer in a more central position to receive and distribute, with three forward players. Defensively, you'd have Andros drop back to take his place on the right side of a bank of four.

Camarasa himself said his best position is as a supporting forward. This is where he got Cardiff's players' POTY award from last season. I'm hanging my hopes on him being the link we so desperately need, as in the last two games there has appeared to be this massive void between the midfield and our front two.

Forget Zaha, despite what he says he ain't interested, and he certainly isn't going to put himself in positions where be could get injured mea ing he could lose out on that January move. We basically have a choice of Wickham or Benteke upfront (or both). So, it no use playing some intricate pass and move game with them, they are not going to endlessly run channels etc. Get people out wide to deliver crosses into the box. The probably means Townsend and Ayew on the flanks, but they must deliver the ball early or from the dead ball line. Depending on whether we play 1 or 2 upfront, means 2 or 3 midfielders. I think Camarrasa must play, a holding midfielder (either luka or Kouyate), then if playing a 3 midfield then either Meyer or McCarthy. At back, Sakho and Tompkins (Cahill to come in if either not avail), schlupp at LB and Ward at RB. Giuita in Goal. This wont happen though, we all know that.

How many top teams play like this nowadays?

This is exactly where the problem lies with us. When we attacked on Sunday Zaha would pull out wide, Meyer would stay out wide, Townsend stays wide and Luca and Jimmy stand on the half way line and then Benteke is the only man in the box. Out numbered 5 to 1. When Townsend and Zaha look up and see this then they dont cross because oBenteke will not be winning the ball while completley out numbered. THis happened time and time again. We need an midfielders to attack the box.

A 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 can achieve this AND with a decent attacking midfielder, hopefully in camerasa, it wouldn’t be the only line of attack. Teams may not put hopeful balls into the box but they put them in areas everyone is on the same page with. What we plan or practice is anyone’s guess.

I agree and hope that Camarasa will be the missing link in an attacking midfield role.

Strongest possible eleven for me would be Guaita Ward Tomkins Sakho PVA It seems we are playing inverted wingers to keep Wilf and Andros happy and blaming the striker for not getting his fair share, a similar situation to Benzema at Real, 17/18 it was all focused on Ronaldo which worked, he left and 18/19 Benzema's league goal/game ratio almost quadrupled, didn't fill the void but Zaha isn't Ronaldo. It may be worth trying Ayew and Schlupp on the wings against Colchester and give Wickham/ Benteke 45 mins each.
