This certainly brings back memories. I also recall the barber shops with those red and white revolving signs outside.I think there was one outside 'Andrews' which was right next to the overhead railway bridge in Norbury.Frequented this establishment, also Salingers in Streatham which was on the London Road. Tony's barber by the market still looks like it's in the 80s

I recall this song well and will never forget the year it was released, which was 1982, the year I met the lady who is now my wife and it used to be played in discos that we frequented. Got played a lot in the Superdrug warehouse where I was driving a little stand on forklift

I cannot understand some chaps (Mainly ripe in age) with bald pates and some semblance of hair on the sides going to the barbers. There is more hair on a ration of bacon than some of them have on their heads. These chaps could easily cut their own hair.Easy money for the barbers I suppose.

I got carted along to a barbers in Lower Sydenham, I think called Walters, who put the traditional plank across the arms of the chair for kids to sit on. He used to do that thing of snapping his scissors together about 6 times for every time he actually used them. Once cut my ear and put a styptic pencil on it which stung like hell.

Yes I recall the requests to move one's head and the powder ! Went to a barbers who used to dip his fingers in water then rub the water behind the ears before he used the razor to get a nice edge to the hair in this area.

The thing that makes me feel oldest of all is that when I hear Come On Eileen I know that nowadays I couldn't even if she gave me the opportunity.
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |

In terms of the song 'Come on Eileen' the word in Corfu back in 1982 was that there was only a single copy of the record on the island and it used to be transported from disco to disco each night, but I really don't know if there is any truth in this.

A bit of a depressing thought. A timeless track though at the same time, so we can all remain young at heart even if our joints are creaking!

The '70s and '80s were both fun because I was a kid, a teenager and a young man. Of course, you try to forget the bad bits but I'm glad I was young in those days and not now. I think it's OK to look back but hopefully, there is still plenty to look forward to, even if it is a little less energetic. The secret is to try and look after yourself and not die.
