Reading the Mail Online? Tut tut! I found out recently that an old school friend of mine is now living on the streets due to a number of reasons of his own making. A Hollywood actor funding this homeless World Cup is not a bad thing per se, but it doesn't really solve the deeper issues such as mental health which is a key factor. He doesn't want to put anyone up in one of his houses either. To me, it's simple virtue signalling from yet another wealthy actor. Edited by Penge Eagle (01 Aug 2019 12.28pm) So unless you can solve an entire problem you shouldn't even bother trying to help at all? Excellent, I'm off to the pub in that case. Stand down lads.

It's sustained and kept private. Have you looked into Sheen’s history with charity work? This is far from a one off, and the vast majority of it you will have never heard of (ie it’s private).

It's sustained and kept private. The publicity is to try and help the future of the event. It was nearly cancelled before he stepped in, hence why he has been doing media work to try and show people how important things like this are.

I find myself agreeing with DanH. I’ve seen it happen to the best of us. I am going to have to lay down somewhere. Good night.

Publicity for charitable causes doesn't automatically immediately imply that someone is having a 'look at me, aren't I great' moment. It can really boost a cause and I'd rather a charity receive publicity than the usual celebrity inanities. Anything that saves us from another Gemma Collins article or interview is good with me . Occasionally what's tagged as virtue signalling is actually just good old fashioned virtue. If someone gives a huge proportion of their wealth to a homelessness cause and promotes that, it's best to see the good in it rather than search for a negative motive.
