From what I hear it may be Zak Crawley who is next into the hot seat. Sibley's stats look good but my understanding is that he is a batsman in the Geoffrey Boycott mould and nowadays we look for someone who can score a bit quicker

In my humble opinion we have problems at Nos 1,2 and 3. One of those could be solved if Joe Root would move up a place but he won't

Root seems to choose his own place - whilst he should be doing what's best for the team. Perhaps move Stokes and Ali right up the order? There still seems to be a shortage of good enough top order batsmen. The one opener I thought did best of a bad lot was Hales but I've seen nothing of him this season so can't say how he's been doing. Roy and Vince both seem so royally unconvincing.

Vince keeps getting chances but he lets down the team time and time again. He is a liability. Aussie bowlers must be licking their lips at the prospect of bowling to the top order.

Personally I think Hameed will come again. Edited by Stirlingsays (29 Jul 2019 3.33pm)

They would lick their lips but they are always covered in that sun block which they use to shine the ball. Edited by ASCPFC (29 Jul 2019 3.49pm)

Perhaps Denly to open, Root at 3 and Roy at 4 might be the answer. Hales can't play Test cricket as he only has a white ball contract with Notts and a change in the ruling means that he's not eligible to play the longer game. Then there's his habit to consider too

Then there's his habit to consider too I wasn't aware of questionable habits - except to swing at balls that could be left. I can't remember all of the names but England seem to have struggled to find a settled top order for quite some time. There have been a couple that have come and gone. This has been somewhat alleviated by having a tail that can bat a bit. I didn't want to say 'wag' but I have now anyway.
