The spend and conserve cycle is not made up. All of those clubs you mentioned have gone through it, you just don’t remember because you don’t support them. I don’t know an awful lot about Watford but I suspect they save some on player costs with their Italian arrangement. And our wage/revenue ratio is worse than all of those you mention. Not only is that a FFP consideration but a real life one. I know you’re frustrated but this has been brewing because of our player strategy and policy, or lack of. We need to get through it and come out the other side and go again with more skill than just lashing out to save our skin, which is what Parish has been doing since we were promoted. This is what must be remembered when people say it’s our longest stint in the Prem. Parish has achieved that with this spending that’s hamstringing us now. I suppose remembering it myself will help me deal with the boring football because I doubt many quality managers would be over the moon about this current conservative part of this cycle wexideally need to smooth out to consistent spending. Edited by Rudi Hedman (10 Jul 2019 12.23pm) That's fair enough. As I say, it was not a moan by any means and if anything, I'm more frustrated with our scouting/recruitment policy. I read an interesting article on how we have not really ever bought and sold for profit, apart from AWB. Have to envy other clubs for the way the go about business but does beg the question of why we do not. Interesting pic attached, shows expenditure on players since 2014/15 for premier league clubs. Noteworthy that we've spent a lot more time in the prem the a couple above us. Attachment: Screen Shot 2019-07-10 at 12.19.35.png (73.22Kb)
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Honestly, how??? Can anyone explain to me how other teams are able to spend tens of millions on players and even despite the AWB sale we are not even close to making any sort of marquee signing or someone to a least boost the team, or replace the player we have just sold for a princely sum? This isn't a sarcastic post, it's a genuine question. Even Southampton have spent about £40million on strikers already. Surely it isn't rocket science in that you identify gaps in your team, plan ahead for recruitment and then begin negotiating once the window opens. I don't accept the fact we have no money and we got rid of a load of dead wood last season Genuinely boggles the mind!!! Or am I supposed to wait til the last day of the transfer window when we spend £100 million on a top class striker, right back, winger and central defender? Edited by beak (10 Jul 2019 2.06pm)

Yes, although a big achievement being in the Prem this long, you have to include how as well, and it’s not that remarkable when you factor in the way the squad, signings, purchases and scouting have gone. It’s been mistake followed by expensive patch up job several times over. Edited by Rudi Hedman (10 Jul 2019 3.41pm)

I know that Parish said that by buying Van Anholt, Schlupp, Luka in the Jan 17 window, they had borrowed against future budgets but it now 5 windows from that period. We have been in and around the relegation zone for past few seasons, and if we are not careful we will get caught one season. Look at Aston Villa and Sunderland who eventually fell. No point having a grand stadium, if you haven't got people to fill it because we languishing at the bottom half of the championship or even worse in Div 1. Even being in Premier League for 7 seasons, we are far from being a stable PL club such as Leicester, West Ham, Everton etc.

Are we buying for the championship, why its taking so long to get one or two payers in Part of the problem seems to be that we got a couple of Americans in, but unfortunately they don't seem particularly willing to pay for anything!
