Absolutely bloody not. We should be trying to sign a young centre back who can understudy Sakho and Tomkins for when they are injured or too old.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

Can't believe there's any truth in this. Why would we need another central defender?

It seems that there are several contract-less, club-less players with delusional wage demands, expecting some fool to pick them up.

Let them stay out of football until they learn some humility and sense.

That will probably be in a few days time when we get closer to the window shutting and no-one has been tempted

Precisely how much greedier can these players get? They must be worth an absolute fortune but still want more. It's b*****ks when they make out they just want to play football

I have no problem with players demanding “silly wages” we would all do the same, and they probably have expenses of there own to pay in life, you live to your means, you might have a better job than me which pays you a lot more, but then that will mean your house is bigger (bigger mortgage) a more expensive car (high running costs) and so on, so I don’t think it’s silly for these players to be asking for a wage that they have been living in for some time. That said, we shouldn’t be shopping for the Cahill’s of this window, we should be looking to invest in long term young players.

That's true and the footballers living in their expensive houses (Benteke's was quoted this week as being worth £6.5m) will be buying them with mortgages over five to ten years so the monthly outgoings will be high.

It's still true that most clubs won't want to be paying £130,000 for an ageing centre half whose best days are behind him

Agree. Not worth the wages outlay.Kelly and Dan. Are pretty capable deputies for our admittedly injury prone Sako and Tomkins

You can't blame players at the end of their careers trying to get one last lucrative deal.

Just not right for us.

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.
