Survive!

First 'rude' encounter was a double bill:

Keep it up Downstairs
Not Tonight, Darling

Both very tame by today's standards!

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

I think my first X film was The Omen, at Studio 123 in Sutton (previously The Curzon). I was underage.

I think the main thrill was being underage. A Clockwork Orange , i saw in Tooting at sixteen, the Devils in Wimbledon and the Exorcist probably in Sutton.

My first X film being ‘of age’ was Emmanuel somewhere off Leicester Square, having failed to get into ‘Let’s get laid’.

House on Haunted Hill. Circa 1959/60. Stared Vincent Price.
A skeleton flew across the auditorium at a suitably scary scene.
Well it did at The Ritz Balham. Locally referred to as ‘The Flea Pit.’

A prophetic film about a future president of France, was it?

I saw Quadrophenia at the Streatham ABC when it came out in 1979 when I was 11 or 12. A mate of my sister worked there and got me in for free. I also saw Scum the same year but not sure which was first. A Phil Daniels double.

always avoid the potting shed !

I might be wrong but I thought it was a 15a or 15?

AA cert at the time, but 15 age as you say.

X was obviously 18 but I remember a stage of XX, which I think was just a warning of the content as I think as a young chap feeling very robbed as just coarse language & some mild sexual content would warrant an X.

The first risqué film I saw was black Emmanuel, all hints, tits & innuendo.

Didn't have that back in those days. It'd have been U, A, AA or X. Pretty sure Rollerball was an AA.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham
