Orwell, Shakespeare, Newton, Faraday, Watson and Crick in the arts and science department, the list is very long. You could flag up the Duke of Wellington or even Cromwell. It's all subjective. Hello. Just logged in to appreciate this.

Although Kate, you should have heeded Cromwell's plea to Parliament after your fourth LP.

Actually I did consider nominating her. For anyone old enough to have lived through the country being run (or ruined) by trade unions she changed the system back to Government by elected representatives She restored Britain's credibility and dragged us out of the dark ages of Union rule. For me, people are just people so they no one deserves an accolade for doing what they thought was the right thing. Women? Maybe Catherine of Aragon who was the reason for Henry VIII to divorce so that he ruled out Catholic Church?

By all accounts a good woman who was treated poorly.....her whole job was to produce the heir and I suppose if that's not happening....it's out with the old and in with the new. Ah, the good old days. Edited by Stirlingsays (07 May 2019 1.52pm)

That seems to be the problem here - most of the candidates are foreigners. How about Garbo, whose exploits shortened WW2, he was a Spaniard. If forced to choose someone without whom we would not be here, I would not choose Churchill, but Stalin.

But for Stalin, there are 20m+ people who would be here (or would have died of natural causes). You really haven't thought this through.
