As for living in a big hole in the ground, this hardly seems like progress tbh. Well no.....but it is probably our best long term route to species survival....on earth anyway. It can be turned into a pleasant environment with the right technologies. We certainly wouldn't have to worry about the heating or energy generally anyway.

If we haven't got it right by now then will we ever? Hmmmmmm, i doubt it. As for 'cheering up', i'm a genuinely happy chappy.............but articulation seems to be a problem. Oh well, nobody's perfect

As the only probable point of life is gene survival.....for many people, it's kind of important. Edited by Stirlingsays (26 Apr 2019 7.30pm)

Why, as in what's the point of gene survival? That's like a meaning of life question, which is probably the deepest question of all. Still, I'm surprised that you didn't know Tux....it's 42. We all probably have theories or ideas but for me I view certain things as unknowable. Instead in terms of the meaning of life, from my perspective the meaning of life is the meaning you give it......sorry...I had to have a chuckle there with the ultimate trite new age answer. Anyway I'm a naturalist at heart...so I look at what my apparent designed purpose is as a human being from what I can gather from the evidence around me. That purpose is to survive long enough to reproduce, nurture that offspring to its maturity and then die. It's not meant to be about me as an individual....there is no importance of the individual within the context of nature.....it's my job to reproduce and die. We can observe this fact within many other species such as ants or bees......there is a form of collective will towards their nature. This isn't me professing a form of communism within nature as such but it's something I've noticed. You aren't really you Tux, you are a unique combination of genes from others...all of whom get to persist in another form. You are meant to be a further link in that chain and pass yourself/them on. Or in other words...as I say.....42. Edited by Stirlingsays (26 Apr 2019 9.07pm)

I had this girlfriend back in the day who liked to give me blowjobs while I was brushing my teeth. It was her thing. I had the cleanest teeth in the region for the duration of the relationship.

Yeah. Why does it appear to bother you (along with many others)? Well, like I said, the the urge to reproduce is natural in nature. I've been fortunate enough to fulfill this purpose.....and it is fortunate as from your start as a fused sperm and egg it is far from a foregone conclusion. Now that I have two healthy boys (so happily I'm not guilty of European birth rate decline) after being too self absorbed to bother before I reached forty...my job...in their sense is to stick around long enough for them to not need me. There is my identity of course, which is part of what I've passed on...but I've covered that. So I've not all that bothered....for myself.
