I went to our pre season friendly at Truro back in 2008. After drinking before and during the game, me and my mates needed some food before carrying on. In the queue in front of us at the kebab shop was Danny Butterfield and Paddy McCarthy - both friendly, funny - top guys. Bumped into them again in a pub later that night !

I had the chance to meet Paul Weller but turned it down in case he turned out to be a c***. I know others that have met him and said he's pretty down to earth but I didn't want to risk it. Not a hero but I met Neil Warnock. I had always thought he was a bit of a w***er but he turned out to be quite nice. Disappointing really. I did meet the Palace team at the old Mitcham training ground. All of them signed autographs for me and seemed happy to chat to us even though we just walked in.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

Out of interest why did you have such a low opinion of Warnock? He's always struck me as warm and down to earth in his interviews

I have never really understood the desire to meet celebrities. They are just people like anyone else, and if you don't know them personally then what do you have to say? Not cool. Mr Stallone. I loved you in Rhinestone.

I got told to **** off by Fred Dinenage once. Couldn't believe that such a nice old fella would have even known those words. I thought, How, Fred? How could you speak to me like that?
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |

You can always talk about their sphere of interest. A couple of years ago I went to a cricket charity lunch and was fortunate enough to sit next to Marcus Trescothick. Oddly enough we chatted about cricket Incidentally he was a regular guy with no airs and graces

Surely someone on here can top that. Maybe being roundhoused by Jack Hargreaves. Anyone? I once literally bumped into Paul McGann but that is small potatoes. Sadly, I have no other physical violence involving celebrities to report. I could tell a few interesting stories but that would be betraying personal privacy.

How about being told to f*** off by Ringo Starr? It was work related, not groupie, and I had my revenge by saying very loudly to my colleagues (and in my best RE accent) God, he's even shorter that I imagined (and being a 6ft female in heels at the time, he looked a lot shorter too!) Now, that conjures up one hell of a picture
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |
