I dont think that the opposition then was as clever and skilled as those that Wilf encounters..Johnny was with out doubt the first Palace super star and could turn defenders inside out but so did Peter Taylor and we could have been one of the few third division teams to have got to a cup final if Rodriques the southampton full back hadnt crippled Taylor in the semi at Stamford bridge, if my memory serve me right...Please correct me if im mistaken but from memory it was early in the game and Southampton knew that Taylor was the match winner.
