f***ing hell £15,000 every single week. Imagine that! If that was your upper limit it’s half that after taxes and then after about 32/33, nothing. Nothing if you aren’t smart or can’t do anything else. You’re also trying to keep up with peers buying Shyte clothes and brand new cars that depreciate (predictive text said deprecate. Well some of their cars do self deprecat) instantly plus expensive nights out and probably expensive girlfriends and often a divorce when the difficulty of retirement affects the home and your marriage. I’d spend and invest, and the investment would take care of the spending in the end, or after a few years, but a lot of these footballers have always been clueless, even if they receive advice. I’m surprised Batshuayi is on £90k with Chelsea. The talk on here was he’s on £180k but going by a google search and several different media, £90k seems to be the case. There are reports that he was demanding £160k to leave Chelsea despite his indifferent form, which made West Ham lose interest even in a loan deal. Therefore this move still isn’t as ‘easy’ as him accepting £90k to come and play bottom third football, which it could be at best for a lot longer, especially when we have to sell Zaha, AWB. We still need to get rid of more sh1t imo. Benteke, Wickham if a fairy came and solved these 2 problems were stuck with for another 16 months. Maybe it’s possible if we don’t sign much else and sell AWB but Batshuayi is going to want what Zaha and Benteke are on. £130k. Why wouldn’t he? Will we be hamstringing ourselves in future windows like we’ve recently experienced? Will he get injured after we’ve thrown our eggs in one basket? On AWB, Parish isn’t a chairman that does nothing when a valuable asset like AWB’s value can be secured on a longer contract and better deal for the player. I’d relax on that one. Only the player or agent refusing during private talks will be the issue there.

I personally would say he should be on at least double that. the doubling of player wages at such a young age is what has caused so many problems in football. Setting those sorts of standards would completely screw our pay structure. Need to keep it sensible and if some greedy young things fall by the wayside and can't see the value in regular first team football vs what young players get at Chelski (a big fat zero) then so be it.

Wan-Bissaka will get absolute minimum of 60k as soon as Chelsea/United/Tottenham come sniffing and he would be first choice right back for all those teams. We should tie him down to a top player salary. Luka should get a good rise, just to show we appreciate him. He will likely stay but we shouldn't be making him look a fool for trying hard whilst Benteke sits on the bench doing nothing for more money. So you put AWB on 60k a week and a ten year contract. Man united still come in and offer him 80k. If the big boys want a player, they get him so there's no merit in chucking money at it. The reason for the lad to stay is guaranteed development and game time, and the example that is set in a squad by giving a kid more than a senior player off the back of not even one season would be disastrous. The chairman's door would be off its hinges with players banging on it demanding a raise. The whole process would cost millions and for what? Finish 9th in the table as a group and we'll talk about it is the sensible message to put out. And as for "rewarding" Luka? 55k a week for doing his job well is reward enough. A couple of indifferent games and a player soon starts to look expensive on that money...

If he goes to a big club now their fans will expect the complete player. He is still learning and does make the occasional mistake. One more season and he should be ready to step up if we cannot persuade him to stay.

In my opinion AWB will not be going anywhere unless Parish decides to sell him which I don't think will be happening. He is local young lad who I think we will have the pleasure of watching for a few more years.

He's loved, he's our best ever player already, he's guaranteed football and he's on brilliant money. If we win a trophy he's absolutely made. As for AWB, I'd like to see him stay for another season to prove he's not a one season wonder (which he won't be in my opinion) and then go on and conquer the world. He's made the most tackles in Europe FFS, the lad is absolute mustard. I'd love to see him playing for England and in the champions' league and they isn't going to happen to us.

How to pay young players is a delicate situation, West Ham have had a similar scenario with Declan Rice. £15,000 is comparatively low for a player of his significance, but we probably need to show him we have the same ambition and scope to develop as he does. They need the right motivation and development goals. What if he became another Jonny Williams? Francis Jeffers There'll be hundreds of others who were in rapid decline by 21 Thankfully only another year of Benteke's wages from this summer. I can't see anyone paying a transfer fee for him, possibly the best case scenario is some Chinese or Middle Eastern side will entice him with a longer deal and we just cancel his contract.

Someone else said this in another thread. How absolutely bizarre! Did you shout on Ian Wright when he knocked in goals for the Arse? I certainly didn't.

Changing a player’s contract can mean the price to buy is higher. That’s all, but it is a big that’s all, and why Parish does it and does it well. It’s one area we’re good at.

Player contracts are something he have a history of handling poorly.
