You’re also trying to keep up with peers buying Shyte clothes and brand new cars that depreciate (predictive text said deprecate. Well some of their cars do self deprecat) instantly plus expensive nights out and probably expensive girlfriends and often a divorce when the difficulty of retirement affects the home and your marriage. I’d spend and invest, and the investment would take care of the spending in the end, or after a few years, but a lot of these footballers have always been clueless, even if they receive advice.

the doubling of player wages at such a young age is what has caused so many problems in football. Setting those sorts of standards would completely screw our pay structure. Need to keep it sensible and if some greedy young things fall by the wayside and can't see the value in regular first team football vs what young players get at Chelski (a big fat zero) then so be it.

Man united still come in and offer him 80k. If the big boys want a player, they get him so there's no merit in chucking money at it. The reason for the lad to stay is guaranteed development and game time, and the example that is set in a squad by giving a kid more than a senior player off the back of not even one season would be disastrous. The chairman's door would be off its hinges with players banging on it demanding a raise. The whole process would cost millions and for what?

Finish 9th in the table as a group and we'll talk about it is the sensible message to put out.

55k a week for doing his job well is reward enough. A couple of indifferent games and a player soon starts to look expensive on that money...

In my opinion AWB will not be going anywhere unless Parish decides to sell him which I don't think will be happening. He is local young lad who I think we will have the pleasure of watching for a few more years.
Same goes for Wilf, I can honestly see him being with us for a long time.
All football players want to win trophies so it is imperative that we put a full strenght team for the FA cup. If we managed to win that cup then it keep our players happy and they would have no reason to want to move on.

How to pay young players is a delicate situation, West Ham have had a similar scenario with Declan Rice. £15,000 is comparatively low for a player of his significance, but we probably need to show him we have the same ambition and scope to develop as he does. They need the right motivation and development goals. What if he became another Jonny Williams?

Have a think about Zaha extending and improving terms in Spain with Parish and reread your points above. Changing a player’s contract can mean the price to buy is higher. That’s all, but it is a big that’s all, and why Parish does it and does it well. It’s one area we’re good at.
