This disgusts me.

The Elephant is a highly intelligent and magnificent creature.
Give me a rifle and I would happily shoot poachers and trophy hunters myself.

Poaching of any endangered species should be a crime punishable by death.
Funding animal conservation by profiting from hunting seems to me to be a pragmatic step too far and any hunting of endangered species even if controlled is morally abhorrent.

Sadly the increasing human population means that other animal life on this planet is doomed.

Thirded...........with bells on.

Zoos around the world have them and that's the only way to keep them from extinction, the white Rhino has now vanished because as these animals become more endangered they just become a status symbol to display success and wealth.

Warning, not pleasant Rhino pics..

From WWF..

Chronic under funding of game management and protection in Africa is a major reason for the misery, Wildlife Agencies and National Parks have high financial requirements that are not even remotely met by the state. Ninety percent of all protected areas are not able to finance themselves.

Because of the lack in government funding they often become “paper parks”, i.e. protected areas that exist only on paper. In an irresponsible manner some conservation organisations continue to create national parks that can only run financial deficits.
At the same time they force out sustainable and lucrative hunting tourism for purely ideological reasons.
Unable to learn from the unsuccessful example set by Kenya, Botswana has recently prohibited hunting. Animal rights activists and the media have praised it. The losers are the local people, who are denied a source of income and thus an incentive to protect wildlife. Hunting bans have proven to be counterproductive. Ultimately the wildlife pays the bill.

Because of the demand and size of land covered you'd need many thousands of ..you and then because you'd also become a target you'll need even more yous to protect ..you.

How would you fund doing it?

It probably wouldn't be that hard to raise an army if very rich people funded it.
The trick is to get them on board I guess.

In truth, I don't really see how you can stop the inevitable. There are just too many humans and that will get far worse in the coming decades.

If we end up bringing about the extinction of this beautiful creature for something as trivial as its tusks it will truly be a stain on humanity.
