Haha don’t mention Roy and corners. Harry Kane springs to mind. Could be something going on in training but has Roy routinely presided over teams who cannot finish the chances they create? Not really. Can you address composure in front of goal in a game situation by practice matches and drills? Not really. The player is either a good finisher, or they aren’t. Stats don’t lie. Hodgson is accountable however for picking the team and tactics. Based on form this year and some other horrendous misses, I wouldn’t want MacArthur getting on the end of that chance either way. In fact I wouldn’t have him on the pitch, but Roy picks a lot on favoritism rather than form and that is definitely something he has always done, including for England.
Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha. |

Where have you got this interpretation from? Read the post again and engage your brain. Of course they're training, my question is whether the training is appropriate and working. As you've identified that we have strikers who are proven goalscorers, who aren't scoring despite the amount of chances created it seems incredible that you haven't drawn the same conclusion as the logic necessarily follows. The conclusion is your post is a contradiction. You except they are proven goalscorers, but training more will make them better, when it patently doesn't.

I agree with all of this apart from in bold. The whole point of practice practice practice and more practice is to ensure performance. No soldier ever went to war having never pulled a trigger because you "can't replicate enemy contact" and no fireman ever went to a shout without having been in a fire because "you can't replicate a real persons trapped situation". The fact that such good players are so bad in front of goal suggests to me that there is something lacking in the training. Edited by ChrisGC (10 Feb 2019 6.19pm)

Do you think we are the only team to miss chances. If you watched Spurs v Leicester today they missed lots of guilt edge chances including Vardy having a penalty saved. The difference is the top sides like City today don’t as they have better players.

Regarding in bold, no it isn't. I said that we aren't converting chances because the training might not be appropriate. It was mentioned that we have proven goalscorers who aren't scoring, which supports my questioning of the training, unless these proven goalscorers have had foot transplants over night of course. Our chances to conversion rate is horrendous, saying that the players aren't good enough isn't a valid root cause, because they are (Sorloth excepted) I'd be very interested to see where we'd be in the table without the penalty conversions.

One player who is not a natural goalscorer with his feet is Benteke. Every scuffed shot ends up straight at the keeper. Even his penalty technique is all wrong. For training I'd suggest sticking a mannequin in goal and place 5 balls, 1 yard apart, each side of the penalty spot. I'd wager he would hit all of them straight at the mannequin.

He's a head on a stick, yet there's balls going to feet? Why aren't they training to put the ball on his head?

Regarding the latter, this wasn't always the case. Again, if he was coached and drilled properly, could he get back into good positions? Regarding zaha and Townsend, more training maybe? Andros is capable of delivering a good ball on occasion. Increase the amount of crosses, increase the accuracy, Bentekkers only needs to be in the right place once a game... Someone else mentioned our corners. Every corner is a free hit if delivered in a well rehearsed way. It's criminal that they always go to waste. Edited by ChrisGC (10 Feb 2019 6.45pm)

Wilf is playing on the left, he can't cross with his left foot, so always comes back or goes on a little dribble, Nothing for Benteke there. Andros is playing on the right, and yet prefers to cut back onto his left foot, giving centre backs time to re-position. Not a lot for Benteke there either. Given that Benteke's only asset is his heading ability from decent crosses I don't understand these tactics at all.

I think one of the main problems is that we haven’t had a striker that can put the chances away. Hopefully this will change with Batshuayi

Also when you look at the striker options we have at the moment, theres Ayew who has not been good as a centre foward and seems more of a 10 for me than a striker, there’s Wickham who isn’t ready for a full 90 minutes yet and he’s injured again and then Batshuayi who probably isn’t ready for a full 90 mins just yet. So at the moment Benteke seems like the only real option
