Beyond having played for/ managed us, I'm not sure what DF's qualifications for being director of football is to be honest My understanding of the role is someone to act as a link/buffer between the board and the manager who's experienced in administering the business of football, understands the demands of management whilst also having an appreciation of the commercial interests of the club. They also build/ promote a model of growing the club through success on the pitch translating into commercial growth and vice versa. Having never done this job before, not having any business related experience/qualifications to my knowledge, and having had no recognisable success as a manager, I struggle to see what's obvious about his credentials for the role.

No fan of “Doug’s” recent record but having signed the likes of Jedinak, Delaney and Bolasie for virtually nothing and taking us to the top of the Championship from being relegation favourites there was plenty to suggest he had a eye for a player.
