He's cried after losing matches quite a few times, no surprise he'd do it when having to prematurely end his entire career.

He's been a great player in an era of even greater players and he should've, and probably would've, enjoyed even more high level success after Nadal and Federer had retired. Going out before those two must be pretty galling.

Optimistic as ever

We may reflect that not being able to be a tennis champion anymore is not the end of the world.

Thank you Andy Murray.

Sorry, misread this. Agree wholeheartedly.

Agree.

Very self indulgent and cringey. No actual tears fell just like the Austria cricket team.

Some fantastic achievements, but I won't miss him. The most joyless, charmless, boring sportsman ever.

Almost impossible to root for. Still haven't forgotten his snipes about England either (having a laugh my arse).

Cynically, he's lost form and can't cut it at this level anymore and the injury is convenient.

Good luck to him, the big positive is we won't have to be subjected to his equally personality-void mother riding about on his coat tails anymore.

We don't like winners in this country, it's far better to be the oh so nearly man

Thats why Tim was more popular. Winning Wimbledon was Andy's downfall

Not sure about that. The media seem to adore him.
If he's disliked I imagine it's got more to do with his personality (or lack of) rather than envy.

Especially when they are English hating Scotsmen.

Would have been much better to retire gracefully with no public sympathy tears. He should be rejoicing at his success which was even more exceptional considering his weak joints body rather than crying that his body really has run out of steam. He will already be regretting this sad show of weakness to end such a successful career.

Federer, Djokovic, Nadal, del Potro and Murray - there have been great players in the past, but that's quite a gang. To have beaten them all means Murray is among the very best.
