The lad has always tried, always been visibly disappointed to be substituted and has ran his socks off when played. I've also never seen him flap his arms about and dig team mates out, unlike certain (clearly more naturally gifted) others. The press wrote a load of stuff about his attitude at Swansea and pushing for a move which we were all guilty of taking as given, but actions speak louder than words he deserves credit for keep turning out with that against his name. I've previously thought he lacked premier League quality and has been let down by not being deployed to his strengths. There's also an element of working hard rather than smart. He gave himself space well and took the goal brilliantly last night. His reaction was pure class. I hope he starts the next match and gets a good reception. I'd like to see him come good and do well. Let him enjoy his moment rather than jump in with whether to send him back. Edited by ChrisGC (03 Jan 2019 8.44am)

What I liked about his goal today was that he burst into tears after scoring it. Showed it meant a lot to him. I hope if he stays that he can get involved in games. I started watching the game a few minutes in and missed the start. I honestly didn't notice him until about 30 minutes in. Roy seems to like him. If he scores 5 more like that before the end of the season, that wouldn't be bad. Quality goal today. Edited by Mr Palaceman (03 Jan 2019 12.19am)

If he's going to be our front man then we need to set the team up around him every week and I don't think Roy will do that. He doesn't seem too bothered about trying to score for the most part of most matches. Hope I'm proved wrong.

If Sorloth had managed to sneak a goal would we all be talking about starting him for the rest of the season? Of course not. One swallow doesn't make a summer and I still hope we get Jermaine Defoe in for a few months as I think he'd be great for us until Benteke is fully fit again.

Good on him. Lucky not to have been given offside, but a clinical finish and a goal that actually meant something, not only to him but to us.

Prior to his goal, I thought Ayew was working hard for the team. He took his goal with the aplomb of a regular goalscorer ! The question now is if that will be the turning point for him. More performances like that will be welcomed and something that we need...whether it's come too late, we shall see

A very well taken goal. I'd like to see him start on Saturday to see if he can kick on from it.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

If we have the option to send him back at all, it will be available for us until the end of the month. If this goal has kicked Ayew into life and he does well for us in the next few games, we can happily keep him - if it was a flash in the pan, off he goes. So long as we haven't stopped scouting for strikers, no problems for us.

Hard working player but not sure he fits our midfield-heavy system or if he is capable of holding the line on his own. He looks like a second-striker, winger or free roaming AM. Townsend has been putting in amazing crosses bang between the penalty spot and 6-yard box (including last night) that no striker can get on the end of. Great touch and finish last night though, made even better that he was limping to come off just beforehand and still gathered his composure to take the chance

It was a fantastically taken goal and for me his best performance of the season. However, let’s not get carried away. His performances over the first half of the season have been dreadful, he’s got more work to do to make up for it. I don’t agree with many that he works hard, he looks like an arrogant sulker to me. I hope he can prove me wrong. I’m pleased for him and hope this has given him the confidence to kick on now. Give him a start against Grimsby to hopefully score again. With the return of Connor Wickham and Big Ben not far off, our striker crisis could be over. I’m not sure it’s necessary to sign a striker anymore, we are hardly in a crisis. 6 points from safety, good form and players returning to fitness. I’d rather we offloaded some of the deadwood to balance the books and take our time to sign the right striker in the summer. I’d say competition/back up on the wings is a bigger priority now.

Tears were probably the thought of having to go back to Swansea and now perhaps he doesn't. Surely anyone can relate to to sheer terror of having to live in Swansea.
