regarding J.Barry, I watched midnight cowboy a few weeks ago for only the 2nd time.
first viewing was decades ago & I didn't give it time.
However the last viewing blew me away, with no pun intended to the cinema scene.
Amazing film & score.

Point of order, m’lud. The Miss Marple theme was by Ron (Battle of Britain) Goodwin, not Grainer.

Also, it’s Delia, not Deirdre, Darbyshire - everyone, including Grainer himself, credits her with the melodic authorship.

Edwin Astley was the composer of Randall & Hopkirk, along with most other ITC shows in the 60s.

John Barry, for me at least, is Top Boy for the superb Bond themes, The Persuaders, The Ipcress File, Out Of Africa amongst others. A f*ckin’ genius, he was.

thank you for your gracious and informative corrections sir, it's all good stuff, though I've recently come round to the view despite my errors that Ron Grainer is underrated and ehis place on the pantheon, I think his name puts people off, sounds more like a greyhound trainer, huge fan of John Barry like yourself, don't forget Born Free, the advert for Sunsilk shampoo, and this link, sung by Lionel Blair's sister Joyce about Christine Kheeler, banned by the BBC under the pseudoyn Miss X ... enjoy

Thank you. I’m a bit of a film music nut on the quiet and I must also thank you for starting such a snorter of a thread.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Can't believe no one has mentioned Ronnie Hazlehurst.

His soundtrack CV is like a who's who of BBC sitcoms from the 70s and 80s.

He pretty much did the lot.

Beat me to it. The best film score ever IMHO is of course Star Wars.

I like Shore's music for the Lord of the Rings films a lot but perhaps because I'm such a Tolkien fan.

Amazing film & score.

My favourite all time film. Appears dated now however that seems to only add to the realism. Superb chemistry between the main two characters.
It's also the soundtrack to beat all others. The actual theme tune gets in your head like nothing else can. Hauntingly beautiful.

the chap that wrote 'the long good friday' theme , although no other film scores to credit, was an excellent big band sound & jazz perfomer.
cannot remember his name now, but he had a huge collection released only a year or 2 ago.
very good, a lot of it.
worth a look.
