What can't happen is that we defer signings to wait and wait for RLC to happen and then it doesn't.
Getting RLC must either be done early, or be a bonus at the end of the window.

Amen to that. This applies to all our targets if it doesn't look like a club wants to sell or we are competing with a bigger club move on to the next target.

It's like when you are on the pull. You can spend all evening chasing the prettiest girl and go home with the ugliest out of desperation. Or you can be realistic and aim for something in between. Sorry I know this is an incredibly sexist argument but its also true.

I totally understand your analogy and have learnt from experience !!!!

Apropos competition for players, there will be players we have an interest in who will also interest other clubs in the PL, for example Everton, Wolves and we have to be realistic and conclude that some of the other clubs might be more attractive to certain targets even though we are a London club.

I've seen us linked with the Croatia Goal Keeper this morning (though im sure its just paper talk).
What i don't want is to be wasting time/money on unnecessary positions like Left Back or Goal Keeper.

I'd love for us to be bold and make a move for someone like Maupay from Brentford or Maja from Sunderland and actually give them a run in the team.(though the latter is only showing form this season, hes young with huge potential).

While i dont think Sorloth is really up to the task at this level, he hasnt ever really been given a chance, and when he did get a run last season, he was playing out wide.

Just my two pennies.

The news page has right of Hitler pundits foaming at the mouth about how Muslims cause cancer etc. Meanwhile the news wire constantly hums with patent nonsense linking us to all sorts. And you sage HOLers read, digest and ignore. Kudos.

Maja is a Lewisham lad so would probably jump at the chance unless he's a 'wall fan

I very much doubt that we have considered the very inexperienced Josh Maja to cure our goal-scoring ills in the PL.

I agree he's inexperienced, but did we really think sorloth would be the answer? Gayle did alright with the step up as did a few others.
He's just an example of someone in form who'd be relatively inexpensive that knows where the back of the net is, not to mention very young.
It's clear our budget is pretty low, so why not try and find some gems in our league system that will take less time to settle as opposed to the Scandinavian or such leagues.

Sorloth came on against Spurs and had a chance to score in the box from 5 yards !!!! I'd be disappointed myself if I failed to score like he did.

Various newspapers reporting that Arnautovic and or Hernández are leaving the Wet Spam.

If true expect the Spam to be competing with us for whatever striker we go for (please god we do go for one).

Unfortunately that is also the attitude of the whole scouting culture within the club. It almost wants me to put Matteo in charge as he at least has the passion to do some research.
Yes we could and should try established. Probably on the loan market. Hernandez if West Ham would let him come on loan, Origi or Solanke would be good options, may even Batshuayi who seems to haven fallen out at Valencia. Yet we should get people in the club with an eye for talent both in the lower leagues and abroad (And paying around 10m for Sorloth is not quite what I mean.....) Then have the gut to actually give unestablished players, including our own youth, chances in the first team.

I have kind of been assuming that given the club’s financial struggles, no one is likely to come through the door in January. However, Hodgson sounds quite upbeat, and maybe there’s a chance of a couple of good players coming onboard?
