I would suggest downloading a bunch of different emualtors for your pc/mac and then load of roms.

if you then really like something look for that in one of these bundles.

it's not worth just buying one of the systems which only supports the one format.

Another option is get an original xbox these can be softmodded to run all the old console games plus you get the function of being able to run original xb games these go cheap pre owned so you would be looking at about £20-30 max (you can put large hdd in there so say another £30 for one of those i did this they are great)
