Johnny Depp is a prime example of someone who is so animated in front of a film camera but so devoid of personality without a script. On the subject of monosyllabic answers I remember listening to a live radio interview with Van Morrison in the early seventies. I had been looking forward to the hour long interview for a while but it was so cringeworthy with my then hero answering all questions with one or two words that after twenty minutes the radio show host dropped the interview and just played records for the remaining forty minutes. I saw Van Morrison live several times in the late sixties and early seventies and he was just as bad live too with an absolute lack of communication with the audience just about managing a "thank you" after each song

I seem to recall it acquired almost legendary status for the brevity of VM's answers and Horne eventually just giving up

That's the one. What an amazing memory you must have as it must have been close on 45 years ago I have many heretofore unsuspected qualities. I only remember it because I often used to listen to Nicky Horne (and very good his show generally was) and, although I'm ok about Van Morrison albeit not a huge fan, I listened with growing astonishment then amusement at how much of a car crash the interview was. Horne himself dined out on the story for some time afterwards. Edited by Cucking Funt (13 Oct 2018 6.02pm)

You are way off, Bowie reinvented himself so many times just because you liked a few early albums doesn’t make the plethora of different styles bad .His exhibition at the V & A (while he was still with us was most attended art exhibition ever and was totally mind blowing . Best I’ve ever been to and I’ve been to hundreds Originally posted by doi209
His close friend Mick Ronson ( Spiders from Mars) was the same. So full of themselves. Bowie was good for a short while - similar to Elton John and Oasis. All living off a couple of good albums. After those, blaaahhh.

People looking to make a name for themselves or get a bit of attention usually find a way to make that happen, especially after the person is dead. Why?

Most talented people have a creative peak of around 10 years. This makes sense for sports people but it also applies to many people in the arts and sciences. It''s almost as if these talented people make a Faustian pact.
