As for climate change. Personally, regardless of the arguments as too how much and where the blame lies....I kind of think that's besides the point. Moving away from oil isn't a bad idea...and that's the way it's going anyway. The issues are the reality that the third world....well essentially all the s***holes around the world aren't going to play ball. Essentially energy use is linked to population numbers in developed and developing countries. So unless technology can reduce the problem....if climate change is correct then we are fecked anyway. It's technology or bust.

Hmmm, I don't like using statistics because they are designed for purpose. Conversely, poorer nations have more children to increase the probability of them making adulthood (playing the odds) A lot of good comments on the thread. Ultimately politics and political boundaries have caused the disparity in wealth which is probably the biggest catalyst for this mess. That is not the relevant statistic. The birth rate is the only one that matters.

Polling done shows that populations in South America and South East Asia view climate change as a far greater threat than we do in the West. [Link] It is also scientifically provable that those contributing the least emissions are going to be affected far more than those, like us, the US and China, who could do something about it. 2. Do you include the US in this 'sh*thole' countries category? 3. Could you give us any example of a 'sh*thole' country that is proving a major obstacle to us combating climate change?

Polling done shows that populations in South America and South East Asia view climate change as a far greater threat than we do in the West. [Link] That wasn't any point that I made. It's obvious that climate change is going to affect countries nearer the equator more....so being more concerned about it is just common sense. Originally posted by serial thriller
It is also scientifically provable that those contributing the least emissions are going to be affected far more than those, like us, the US and China, who could do something about it. Great logic there serial...you worked out the more developed countries have the larger carbon energy use per human. However, the point was that it's the areas with the largest populations that are quickly developing but still remain relatively poor.....that's who are really going to worsen the climate because it's about energy per human and they breed like rabbits. 2. Do you include the US in this 'sh*thole' countries category? Don't be ridiculous. The US has issues but it's the greatest country on earth.....if not perhaps as culturally imbued as its founder nation. Originally posted by serial thriller
3. Could you give us any example of a 'sh*thole' country that is proving a major obstacle to us combating climate change? The continents of Africa and South America contain many s***ehole countries, especially Africa...and I shouldn't miss out the middle east....I've just said my comment stated that the real problem comes with their rapid development.....which is a good thing...but it comes with rapid increased energy use.....and that's worse for high population areas. As I said....it's technology or bust. Edited by Stirlingsays (09 Oct 2018 8.51am)

Any action that happens has to be global or it ain't worth spit. And Africa, India ,China are exploding in population,

Now they're telling us to not eat meat to protect the climate, a narrative pushed by the BBC. Fortunately, the climate minister Claire Perry said it's not the government's job to advise people on a climate-friendly diet. Fair play, a rare bit of commonsense in the government. But you can see that whose side the 'BBC environment analyst' Roger Harrabin is on...

We should all do what we can as responsible people, it is our health and our planet. You don't have to give up meat just cut down. But looking at the 5 options there, eating less meat was not the big deal for those interviewed, but keeping warm definitely was. Extra jumpers etc. no thanks we want the heating on.
