Tapenade is something that I would be wary of if I suffered from life threatening allergies. It's supposed to be a paste made from olives and capers all pureed up with olive oil but you never know what might be added to commercially manufactured tapenade

You would have thought that the regulations would be there that everything should be labelled. Seems a bit ridiculous in this day and age. Surely the EU would have brought out a regulation. How ever much payout this Dad and family get will not go anywhere near helping the suffering of losing a child.

I'm not sure that they will get a payout as Pret didn't actually break the law and if the family get lawyers involved for compensation claiming that Pret was playing Russian Roulette with people's lives I think that the company will involve their own lawyers who may point out that the father failed in his duty of care to his daughter by allowing her to eat food with unknown ingredients in it

Legally, the family of the poor girl haven't got a leg to stand on.

the main issue here is thst pret were extremely niave purchasing bread products containing nuts, in my site i wouldnt be that stupid. also the law is very easy when it comes to labelling, and a company such as pret would have online training portals with mandatory allergen training, i made all my staff do it. even tho mistake have been made in due dilligence, its the staff on duty not doing their job correctly rather than “just” the companys fault

im pretty sure the current allergen laws came into place december 2014. i cant help but come to the conclusion its not entirely prets fault, if i had an allergy i would ask questions as i wouldnt want to potentially die. however if they asked the question & incorrect info was goven then they are obviously to blame. however important this legislation is, it causes a massive ballache on a daily basis to us caterers.

A more disgusting combination i'd find hard to pick. Olive and tapenade is a bit like egg mayo, the same ingredient twice. Except egg mayo is edible.

I don't think they were naive about what was in it, they knew and had it labelled in the allergen folder but not on the actual product. As the law apparently allows.

I should imagine to minimize risk people with these life threatening conditions should only be eating home prepared food and drink.....a condition like this means you don't get to live the same life as others. Again tragic.
