I’m starting to think the actual problem is Dougie Freedman hasn’t actually sourced the type of midfielder Roy asked for.

I’ve seen Meyer play on numerous occasions. He played deeper last season. But he is not in any sense a like for like replacement for Cabaye.

He’s a special, special talent. But he is a technical midfielder to link play in the pockets of the final 3rd. And not a tenacious defensive midfielder who’s gonna be everywhere tackling. It’s as simple as that.

I think possibly the scouting Network saw him playing as a “defensive midfielder” last season. Saw the big name and contract issues and though that’ll do.

But there is more to this than Roy just not wanting to change a winning team. You don’t sign one of the hottest prospects in europe as a team fighting relegation the season before and start him every week on the bench.

So disappointing this is becoming. Refusal to adapt to anything progressive year after year.

We're the Arthur over ere!

I have a feeling Punch could have a say in the outcome of this.

Disappointed no Meyer again. Roys refusal to include him is baffling. Que Mayer coming on in the 83rd minute trailing 1-0. Or not at all of course.

It’s a home game we need to be on the front foot. Roy should have found a way to fit him in. He’s just so stuck in his ways. I’m sure Max is thinking what have I done.

I think you’re spot on there Meyer will only come on if we’re losing , it baffles me but I guess we just have to trust Roy

As long as he stays on the bench, it may a positive contribution.

Don't know why people are surprised at the team selection. Roy doesn't change a winning team, except for injuries and suspensions.
The question of Meyer not getting a start, may have more to do with his attitude, he has history.

Keeping the same narrow midfield 4 to try to nullify Ritchie and Kenedy out wide. Seems sensible.

Meyer to come on and switch to 4-3-3 if we need to.

Won't see him until 70 mins, if at all then. Not sure if Roy saw the Arse game when Torreira came on and pushed their midfield forward with such menace. Poor decision in my mind not to play Meyer from the off when we have started so lethargically in all 5 games this season. COYP !!

I have a feeling that if Meyer takes someone's place it will be McArthur's. Roy won't drop the captain, Townsend balances the team, and Kouyate looks like the physical presence we've been missing (even if his passing is a bit erratic). I love McArthur so it will be interesting to see if Meyer can oust him (or one of the others). Having only seen him in small spells he looks quality but how he will adapt to the PL remains to be seen. He's 22 so there's plenty of time if he can remain patient.

The two teams look well matched today so hopefully it will be good game and if not then at least we win I feel more confident having Kouyate in there to battle with Shelvey and Diame, especially if Luka can recover his form too.

Has Zaha injured himself in the warm up?

Back out there apparently. Better be; otherwise there'll be nothing for Shelvey to do.

Hope to be proved wrong but we might be chasing this game within the first 20 mins, unable to move forward in the midfield and lots of crosses to Rondon from the flanks. Just inviting pressure. Are we playing the Scousers again ?
