Surprised she was so rattled by Corbyn as to go for him in that way. Labour a lot more relevant than her IMO. In the sense that they MUST be the party NOT to vote for.

Some fellow members and activists with whom I have been engaged in conversation echo these sentiments. I normally stay well clear of this political forum and don't even read the topics as I have quite an extensive life politically outside of HOL discussing an array of political topics with like-minded individuals and I don't want it to consume my life even further by partaking on debates on this site ! Besides there is always the danger that the debate would centre around 'Yours Truly' rather than the topic itself.I thought on this occasion I would make an exception.Well done to Theresa May. I thought it was a work of pure fantasy and hypocrisy. Magic money tree anyone? A promise to raise public spending and increase borrowing on house building without any explanations of where the revenue will come from? Even Labour have actually costed their spending plans. Talking about how wonderful the UK is, a place to where people from pakistan can move and become bus drivers and their kids can then be Home Secretary (while neatly forgetting that she's about to stop this very thing from happening). About how brilliant that a 2nd generation windrusher is in the cabinet (avoiding the fact that she was responsible for denying UK citizens their rights who were part of that generation as part of her hostile environment, and refusing to apologise for the human toll of her egregious treatment of those people). Talking about how terrible Labour's anti-semitism fallout has been (true) but forgetting (conveniently) that her own party has supported Victor Orban (an actual anti-semite in charge of another EU country who they protected from EU sanctions). Talking about the Tories being a party of unity, glossing over the fact that the Tories have been responsible for the biggest division of our society we've seen for a thousand years. The country is divided along stark lines (more like trenches) of leavers and remainers, young vs old, rich vs poor, 'kippers vs migrants. There was zero substance, just delusion and hubris designed to keep her alive for a couple more weeks and to keep Boris et al at bay. It may have succeeded in doing that but it was not a good speech if what you want is policy or direction on Brexit.

'The last refuge of the scoundrel' How people fall for that old patriotism routine, the implication being that you are some kind of traitor if you don't support the tories or brexit, is beyond me. It is also totally false, the tories are, and always were, complete scoundrels. The tories are the party of appeasement, not labour. WW2 was only prosecuted by Churchill after he appealed to labour to support him. They forgot their differences and did so, his tory colleagues wanted to chuck in the towel. I'll spare you Suez because it is even worse.

Conference speeches are always preaching to the converted how many can he rest of us remember or care about? In my lifetime I can only think of 2 standout speeches that stay in my memory. Thatcher "the lady's not for turning" Kinnock "a labour council sending redundancy notices around in taxis". That was when he kicked out Momentum sorry I meant Militant Tendency. That speech still stands the hairs on the back of my neck up even now and I hated the man. This will all be forgotten by the time we get to the next GE.

Corbyn has a constructive policy on brexit, the tories are at war they don't have any time for details. Phillip Hammond, the Tory Chancellor, has said Corbyn's points on brexit will 'have to be addressed by the government'. She can run but she can't hide forever.
