Another typical Lee mason performance

Officials in this country are so poor and it's not just the refs but the whole setup.

You could count on one hand how many decisions palace got and that includes throw ins and don’t get me started n the disallowed goal it was a very soft tug of an arm and that was it

Just how bad was Lee Mason today? Absolute s***e start to finish..how he keeps being a referee is way beyond my understanding, he is totally useless, biased and heavily swayed by the home crowd today, a first class bottler, hope we never have to see him again...
Lets hope he is forensically assessed and sacked for a change due to gross incompetence

It seemed as though he'd decided in advance that he was going to stamp his authority on the players by booking the first foul he saw, no matter who or what was involved, pour encourager les autres. That happened to be McArthur. He then didn't book players for a couple of apparently worse fouls soon thereafter and from then on it seemed to be more or less random.

Haven't seen the goals that were chalked off but most people who did seem to think that ours were perfectly legit.

We are a magnet for poor referees, he was unbelievably bad yesterday. It’s just accepted now that Wilf will get kicked up in the air and a bad injury is just around the corner.

Yesterday’s game was no different from the others that have gone before, Wilf even mentioned this on MOTD, bringing up the Decourie challenge in the Watford match, which on any other day would have been a straight red.

As for yesterday’s game, don’t get me started on the disallowed goal.

Yet another disgraceful refereeing performance. High time Roy & Steve came out and demand better protection for Wilf rather than just leave it to Wilf himself. Surely you want to protect your biggest asset?

Red cards the only way to stop return of brutality
Referee’s view
Wilfried Zaha is right – too many referees are scared to show red cards for brutal tackles. It is now becoming clear that Zaha is a marked man whenever he plays – so referees have to respond.
This is not a case of applying one set of rules for one player and a different set to everyone else. It is simply officials being sensitive to the situation, and being aware that a player like Zaha – who is clearly so crucial to Crystal Palace – is likely to be coming in for some rough treatment.
As it is, Zaha is at serious risk of being badly injured.
The incident at Watford last month when his Achilles was raked by Etienne Capoue was a shocking challenge, one that could have seriously endangered his career. It should have been a straight red card.
On Saturday, he was the subject of another act of brutality, this time from Huddersfield’s Mathias Jorgensen, whose cynical late challenge had nothing to do with football.
It was an act purely designed to stop Zaha’s run and put him at risk of injury – he should have been sent off. It did not need any skill from the referee to see it, because it was so blatant and resulted in Zaha getting frustrated and earning his own yellow card moments later.
It was right that Zaha was cautioned for that, but you could understand his irritation. You never want players to take matters into their own hands, but they are more likely to do that if referees do not apply the law correctly.
Referees have to prepare more. They need to be aware of which players are likely to be targeted and manage the game accordingly – maybe with a quiet word with the opposing captain beforehand, and then applying a firm hand right from the start once the game begins.
I get the impression that referees are scared to produce straight red cards for bad tackles – it is far easier to show two yellows as then the decision cannot be appealed and overturned – but it is often a necessary sanction.
Failing to issue it runs the risk of players being kicked out of the game, and English football returning to the bad old days when skilful stars were brutalised.

Good read. We don't want it in the papers though do we, we want it on the pitch but maybe Wilf's interview is actually going to do some good.

It all helps. Jamie Rednapp in the Mail supporting Wilf too.

The thing I d like someone to highlight is the systematic rotation of players kicking Wilf. That's certainly what Hackersfield did twice last season.

Maybe, getting it out in the open for discussion (and there seems to be a consensus of support for Wilf's comments) will be the key to counteracting the long held belief that he 'goes down too easy'.

If this puts the media spotlight on the fouls actually being committed on him (and others like him) then hopefully the refs will feel obliged to take note too.
