Luka needs a playmaker beside him, and that is what I thought Meyer was brought in for. Roy needs to stop the dithering and put him in the starting 11. Oh, and drop Benteke, just to see if he has any hunger left in him.

Is the correct answer. I don't think it's to do with captaincy.

Agreed, if Meyer and Kouyate are in the starting 11, Luka does not have the same issues with having to play provider as well as protector.

Posters are confusing his form/ abilities as a player with his qualities as a captain.

I rate him as a player but not as a skipper.

With more forceful and dynamic leadership, we might have won, or at least rescued, something from the matches we’ve lost.

Looking back, Shaun Derry wasn’t the most gifted of players, but his spirit of resolve and determination spread to the rest of the team.

I’m not convinced that’s happening with Luca, and it’s something for Roy to sort out.

(It could also be said that there is not a lot of fire and brimstone radiating from the dug-out - just heads being held in hands as we miss another sitter.)

I'm not really convinced that his performance as a captain have produced dips in other players form, some being iffy for sometime. He may well have jet lag from the World Cup. Didn't Cabaye go to the Euro's, didn't play but didn't appear for us for a few games ? Luckily in a way Wilf wasn't there. At the moment it doesn't look like any player that attended the World Cup is sparking. Maybe he just needs a couple of weeks rest, which he will get as he's fallen out with the Serbian manager.

The current team seems to lack forceful characters in contrast to the side that came up - think Jedi and Delaney.
Jedi was an inspirational captain who led by example and apparently was influential off the field as well.
Since he left neither Dann or Puncheon have convinced.
Luka is still the most convincing candidate in the current squad unless I’m missing something.

I have to admit I would like to see more passion and maybe anger from the management. These players need to know that if they miss sitters then they are at immediate risk of being dropped, along with a wtf was that at half time or end of game. Ward deffo deserved a wtf was that, as has Benteke every game this season, and most of last to be fair.

You may or may not be right, i am not sure, but its a good point, problem is, if not Luka for captain, then who???

I think people are forgetting that Luka did go to the World Cup and is probably not quite on it as he should be. He has certainly lacked a bit of sparkle this season.

But I think the captaincy has not so much to do with his form as his summer exertions.

I hope the international break will do him some good.

Serbia played just three games at the World Cup finals, the last of which was on 27 June. I think that blaming any loss of form on that, two months later, is stretching credibility beyond the limit. By and large the whole team has performed below expectations so far this season, and it's probably unfair to single out individuals.

Certainly after the fine win at Fulham, nobody expected 3 defeats on the bounce.Been a disappointing run and a defeat at Huddersfield on Saturday will certainly attract a plethora of negativity, amidst an outpouring of criticism.

Can't disagree with you there, barring a few players I have been massively disappointed with the general performance level in our first few matches. Wayne has probably been our most consistent performer since the start of the season and I never expected to hear myself saying that.
