I'd put Ward in for AWB. Push AWB further up on the same wing and switch Townsend to the other wing. Play with either Sorloth or Benteke at point.

Hennessey

Ward
Tomkins/Kelly
Sakho
Van Arnolt

AWB
JM
Luca/Kouyate
Meyer
Townsend

Sorloth/Benteke

Just like others on another thread think this could work. Reckon he could cause a lot of problems for many defenders with his pace and ability. By far the nearest we have to a Wilf replacement.

We should play without an all out striker. Lots of good teams do it. Sorloth and Benteke are not at the level required and we can’t keep on saying the same things every week.
Last season without Benteke we had a nicely balanced side with Wilf and Andros up front. We are much better with the ball with an extra midfielder, as Luca can then do what he’s good at and take the ball from the defence and pass it to the midfielders who can actually use it and push us up the pitch.
Luca is never going to be a playmaker but without that extra midfield player we end up too deep from the starting point and invite trouble like we did in the first half against Southampton.

Agree 100%.

We played our best football last year with Wilf and Andros up front. Now we're right back to what wasn't working.

Luka has been terrible in the system this year. We need a midfield who can control the ball and pass it successfully to take that responsibility off Luka.

Yes, we need someone direct and positive to create things out of nothing (since we struggle to actually play football)

Ayew start. He is a much better striker then Benteke/Sorloth. It's not even close.

Ayew wasn't match fit yesterday and gave a good account of himself yesterday. He chased down balls and worked hard, compared to Benteke that just strolls around.

If that's the case, we'll still be on 3 points into October and the relegation battle will be on again.

There's no excuse for a team to lose 13 matches in a row without one player, no matter how good he is. It's pathetic.

Roy won't change the formation. Drop the strikers and play the wingers upfront,it worked last season.

Zaha and Townsend the front 2, midfield ayew luka chuckie and meyer, the usual suspects at the back and maybe give our new keeper a run out imo

Ive heard a lot of this pushing AWB further forward but don't see this as a good move . He couldn't get anywhere near the first team as a winger . His strength is in his obvious defensive talents and attacking from his deep position where he is not marked out of the game which I believe would be the case .
.The lad has made huge advances as a full back ,now is not the time to change his position

I didn't really mean him as an out and out winger more of a right midfield player who has the freedom to attack without having the same worries of leaving that side exposed when he does go forward.

As soon as Wilf is back I'd put AWB back to right back. Yesterday he made a fair few runs down the wing and got some crosses in, something the rest had trouble doing.

I thought Ayew was quite disappointing against southampton. He didn't do much and fell down a few times.
