Whether you find his joke funny or not how can a joke made at the expense of how some Muslim women dress stir up racial hatred?

Because it's literally being made because she's a muslim and belittling what she's choosing to wear. It's really not that difficult is it?

Back before the progressive left destroyed comedy you could make jokes about groups and you could make jokes about what people wear......without a movement trying to sack you or other unpersoning attempts.

'Progressive' politics is a cancer on society.

The vast majority of comedians are left wing. Right wing people are too boring to be funny. Plus taking the piss out of something someone wears is just ridiculously low level 'comedy'.

Oh and get a new line about progressive politics/cancer. It wasn't even clever the first time, let alone the 427th.

I think that perhaps you either need to look up the definition of racial hatred or perhaps you are trying to redefine the term.

I agree with Boris Johnson that women that wear the burqa look like letter boxes but that doesn't mean that I feel hostile towards them much as if I laugh at a joke about ginger haired people that doesn't automatically mean that I have hostility towards them

That's just a simplistic summary of the situation.

Lots of comedy involves being critical and seeing things through a new lens. It's not about conserving a view or upholding tradition.

Hence right wing people aren't typically attracted to comedy in the same numbers....but they are there.

Also you have the obvious bias and career blocks against right wing people within the industry because....you know....it turns out that in many respects the left are exactly the same as what they used to complain about.....tribalism always wins.

There are right wing comedians....it's just that they keep their head down....because that's the society the outrage mobs on the left have created.

Hmm, I can see where this thread is heading. Was the comment funny; should he be allowed to say it without being attacked by interest groups?

Commenting from another angle, why did he say it? Boris Johnson is the biggest zeitgeist whore in British politics. You name it, if it is popular he will attach himself to it. He has seen how populism can benefit a politician with the success of his pal across the Pond. He can see that you can get away with openly mocking the disabled, blatant racism and misogyny. There will be a strong power base of people who are not appalled but will actually lap it up.

He knows that in a recent poll, a whopping 25% of Brits described themselves as anti-Islam. You can bet that a substantial % of that group are likely to be older and will probably be voters. He knows that too.

His point is a no-brainer. A ban on the burkha is ludicrous. You will either fine women who are dressing how they want; or you are fining the victims of oppression. However, his so called jokes were the real political point.

He is not-so-cleverly seeking to attract the support from that politically active but largely neglected corner of Britain to boost his prospects of securing the top job. It is a high risk tactic and - irrespective of whether I agree with the politics or not - I for one hope it fails.

His model Trump is a fairly disgusting character who has tapped into the lowest base of his nation's psyche AND is an astute businessman who has steered the US economy into prosperous waters. Boris is ONLY the first one. He is a man who really needs to disappear into the political wilderness quickly. He is bad for this country.

Imagine the BBC broadcasting this now.

10 years ago this was aired. Look what that cancer has done to this nation in that short time. We are terrified to even debate this, for fear of being tutted at and branded "waycist" by the likes of DanH.

But yeah, enjoy the Boris pile-on. It's utterly transparent that this confected outrage is for political purposes only.

Do you remember the wails of outrage and autistic screeching when Queen of Europe, leader of the liberal free-world, saint Mutti Merkel actually herself VOTED to ban the Burka? Nope, me neither. But look what we have when Boris actually speaks out AGAINST banning it. Odd.

Having lived in several European countries for extended periods, I've never come across anyone who makes fun of someone else's language. I've only had this experience when I lived in the UK and when I make occassional visits. It's pre-teen level humour in the UK that's spread to adults, very weird indeed. If you find that funny then you need to travel the world a little more.

I found it insulting to the nationalities involved and a definite zero on content of humour. Still, I'm not surprised that a contingent of UK citizens find humour in insulting others as it's a sign of an inferiority complex and feeling threatened by those who they think will come and take away what they have.

It has 397 likes against 23 dislikes on youtube, it would probably go down quite well

There was a reason British comedy was once revered around the world.

It wasn't because of opinions like yours.
