I respectfully disagree with you. The advertising, even if not aimed at children is seen by children and increases brand awareness and `normalizes` gambling (You can debate how right or wrong that is). Look at the tobacco industry and it's influence in sports in the past and how advertising and even branding on packets has been heavily censored for exactly this reason.

Nothing on a football shirt has ever made me buy or use that product or service, as an adult or child.

Never bought a Tulip computer?

Seriously, you’ve never had advertising ‘make you buy’ anything because you’re not easily influenced or you search deals/quality, but advertising is for raising and enhancing brand awareness. If it didn’t work they wouldn’t advertise, obviously! Or everyone wants to/has to advertise because nobody is going to stop.

We're not all sheep.

If you're a big enough brand you can spend money on advertising or pay it in tax.

The gamification of gambling, the introduction of apps and the aping of app game stimuli, the relaxing of gambling laws and the normalisation of their presence in the high street and on TV will all have a detrimental effect on a generation. And institutional and political greed and allowing it to happen

It's not about being sheep, advertising and marketing are about manipulating your purchasing decisions and while you might like to think your above such things, I very much doubt it. Where you shop, the car you drive, the products you have in your home, the clothes you wear, will all suggest otherwise.

Sponsorship does work.

I refuse to buy NOBO products (not sure I want to know what they are), carry a Tescos bag or have an Amex card.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

While you may not go for brands or respond to advertising it does work.if it didn’t work they wouldn’t advertise. Why spend money on something that has no use and waste money. The fact is it does. Nothing to do with tax.

"We're not all sheep" would indicate that some people clearly are.

I think the Mrs Lovejoy esque "somebody think of the children" is overstated. When it comes to nannying adults about it I find it plain ridiculous.

My son (age would love to be able to have a 'proper' replica shirt, ie like the players wear with the betting company on it.

Not because it's a betting company, but because he wants his shirt to be the same as the players.

There is not a chance he could place a bet at his age, even online, he wouldn't know what to do, and he doesn't understand it.

When he is 18 he will be sufficiently educated to make up his own mind.

It's a bit nanny state to not let kids wear such a logo on their shirt. Particularly as when he is 12/13 he will fit the small adult shirts that do have the betting logo on (just like all the 12 year old kids at Oxford had Singa beer sponsored shirts!)

Fair enough that the government stopped smoking advertising, kids are a target market for tobacco firms, but I don't think betting companies are remotely targeting kids.

Sick of Ray Winstone though, get him off my screen!!

We need to regulate it for sure. The advertising is everywhere with football. It was impossible to get away from it during the World Cup, with over half the adds seemingly being gambling adds. Personally, I think gambling adverts should be banned till after the watershed, and in play gambling needs some sort of regulation. That regulation exists elsewhere in the world.
