This post has been merged from a topic called 'What To Do About The Mirror & Mail' by kenbarr Today's Bleacher Report (USA) rehashing of the nonsense published by both the Mirror and the Mail I hate to advocate a boycott of either but their irresponsible and insulting attitude towards CPFC is undeniable. The Mirror has transferred our players to and fro without any credible evidence and the Mail tells tall tales about our club. I firmly believe in Freedom of The Press but with freedom comes responsibility. In the US, for a libel/defamation suit to succeed against a media company for something it wrote/broadcast/posted, the plaintiff must show that said publication/broadcaster etc. must have acted with malice and forethought in reckless disregard for the truth. I believe both the Mirror and Mail have passed that standard in their coverage of CPFC. I don't say this lightly. When I lived in Streatham I bought the Mail every dayl along with the Telegraph, Guardian and Independent/Observer. It was one the one tabloid I could tolerate. I had an interaction with Hilary Kingsley, the then TV critic of the Mirror when I appeared on Mastermind. She wrote in a review of my first round episode that I somewhat resembled Hitler. I wrote her a private letter saying that her reference was upsetting given my background and my father had just died. She sent me a very nice hand written reply sincerely apologising and wishing me luck. Back then, the 1990s, both papers were a different kettle of fish. What they have become is truly alarming. Why does football punditry disrespect clubs like Crystal Palace? Why is Crystal Palace less worthy of a player like Wilfried Zaha and Spurs, Chelsea and the Manchesters are? I certainly don't agree with that. Without CPFC and the rest football would be a very boring sport. Not only do we provide competition we provide style, class and colour. Speaking for myself, I wasn't supposed to become a Palace supporter. My the in-laws were all Chelsea supporters, including my then nephew. Watching Palace play on Boxing Day 1989 I saw a side that competed versus a rather jaded Chelsea side that assumed they would win without too much effort. Within five minutes of kickoff I was a committed to the Palace cause. To me, Palace is what football should be, constant effort and the joy of playing the game. Winning is certainly nice but it isn't the be all and end all for me. That's one of the reasons I switched from the New York Yankees to the Boston Red Sox. The Yankees have to win it all every year. That's boring. The Red Sox compete to win but it isn't the only thing. Enjoyment of the game is more important. Games are supposed to be fun. Part of Pele's greatness was the smile on his face as he played. He wanted us to have fun with him, unlike Maradona who always frowned. That describes Crystal Palace to a T. Palace has fun. Palace, when at its best, plays the game with joy and controlled abandon. It's what Alan Pardew called playing like mavericks. My view on him is that he lost sight of that and the results went south on him. He tried to change too much too soon. He'll always be a Palace hero to me for his goals against Spurs at White Hart Lane in 1990 and the famous one at Villa Park. What sank him as manager was losing the joy of the game. Why is it that the pundits and the media stress winning and size of club over the joy of the game? The obsession with size, with quantity over quality, truly baffles me. It is far easier for me to ignore the British gutter media than those of you who live there. What are your views? I'd really like to know.

But not one mention of Hitler though!?! This is true. I did however randomly see a tweet from Ken yesterday and I can confirm he doesn't look like Hitler.

There's only one thing worse than being talked about, and that's not being talked about.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'What To Do About The Mirror & Mail' by kenbarr None of the press coverage of CPFC bothers me in the slightest because I don't read it and the reason I don't read it is that it's all bollox. If I thought Wilf read it and was influenced by it I might be a bit more concerned but does anyone seriously believe Wilf gets information about where he might or might not move from the papers and thinks 'Oh good, I'm moving to Chelsea, I'd never thought of that'? More concerning is the fact that these papers spout similar drivel about things like Brexit but let's not turn this into a Brexit thread. Incidentally, where is Willo?

(joke) If you resembled Hitler.....Does this make you Britler? To be serious, I think we just suffer from the bias that most of the media have for the bigger clubs. It's visited upon all the smaller clubs. Personally, I don't view it as insidious or particularly negative. Rather I view it as human nature.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'What To Do About The Mirror & Mail' by kenbarr Al you can do about the tabloids is just not read them. They all seem to be in dire straits with tumbling circulations. Whole piles of them at the garage where I fill up, the displays always full of them and they just go to landfill. If you scream 'traitors' at half the population they tend to stop reading your rag.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'What To Do About The Mirror & Mail' by kenbarr I can see where you're coming from Ken, and some of the nonsense that comes from the media, especially about the supposed smaller fry in the tank, can be particularly galling, especially during a transfer window. It's even more infuriating when a nonsense story gets repeated by the rest of the circus and, as you rightly point out, it's half way around the world before you know it. I'd tend to side with those who are of the opinion that, whilst it's a pain in the butt, it doesn't actually influence anyone who matters; players, chairmen, managers, etc.,etc. It's giving the morons on North Stand Chat endless hours of fun, but we all know who's going to have the last laugh don't we? In fact I'm already having a belly laugh at their prize acquisitions this window. As has already been pointed out on a similar thread, at least we're important enough to be talked about, whereas the detritus just gets ignored. Only seven days to go, including today, and then we can get on with the real business of European qualification Edited by bexleydave (03 Aug 2018 4.28pm)
