I’m quite a fan of irony, but I’m struggling to understand what ironically bad TV means. Eldorado, for example, was just bad TV wasn’t it? Where’s the irony?

Now Chucklevision.....

Does your brain have autocorrect? - it's iConnically bad TV

I take it some of you are old enough to remember Blake's Seven? Mentioned for its bargain basement special effects. Anyone dressed as any kind of furry alien wore what looked like Woolies' pyjamas and you could see the zip come undone as they ran around. And when the spaceship was turning round in space you could see the cardboard background wobble and the bloke behind it turning the dowelling rod. Teenage boys loved it because they could watch Servalan strutting her stuff.

Was gutted when it finished. The worst TV I have ever seen are the soaps - all of them really.
On another note, imagine if Alf Garnet was around these days - people such snowflakes they wouldn't notice the humour.

Soaps were banned in my house which may have been a contributory factor in the subsequent divorce.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

To start with, to be ironically bad a the makers of the programme have to be producing it with entirely serious intentions/pretensions.

My examples I'm afraid show my age but I am sure some of you will share my memories ...

As a kid I used to watch the original 60s Batman show. Me and my friends used to make fun of it but, of course, the laugh was on us as it was self-consciously made to be camp and comical.

On the other hand, Crossroads, which was on around the same time, was meant to be a serious soap about the lives of everyday motel folk. The wobbly scenery, wobbly acting, and Amy Turtle stumbling over her lines was, for me, the epitomy of ironically bad TV, and our laughter in this example, was justifiably at, not with, the show.

S.W.A.T now on Sky. Think of a stereotype cop show and it’s here. Ultra macho beefcakes tick, tough Latina females who have something to prove tick, , sleazy political boss tick, romance between leads no surprise tick.
“I promise nothing will happen to your family” cue family mayhem. I’m not sure if the producers are taking the p but it’s awful, series linked.
A vehicle for Shemar Moore of Criminal Minds to get his mojo on.

I watched the first episode last week with my teenage son and it was pretty dreadful. Unfortunately my son quite liked it
