Looking at what is happening in the transfer market were theres more out than coming in.
I do think maybe we have some money to play with but, are we now at the end of the spending and the need to get the books balanced, because of the fair play rules. maybe just maybe, we are sailing close to the wind.
I know there is lots of spend spend spend fans on here who think that there 50 pound every other week means we can spend 100 million in the transfer market,
Looking we made close to 13 million profit goes to show thats good we made a profit but, thats like backing a horse thats 1/10 hoping it doesnt lose.
So all those fans who think there small contribution to the club. need to wake up to the fact that sadly its going tobe hard every season until we are making 100million profit,
fair play league come in to late, so chelsea and man city have got in before the rules changed,
So lets stop blaming the owners, because at the end off day nobody other than the owners know how much we can spend without facing penalties.(thats hard enough watching the world cup)
Keep the faith but always realise that until we have money that matchs the top 6 we need to feed of the scraps with the other teams,
now waits for the smart comments about spelling and also that im a SP lover

I imagine the modest profit each year is important for keeping the bank happy. I'd be surprised to not see that now continue year on year with a stadium to pay for.
As far as transfer fees are concerned I think we'll have a bit to spend but the majority of our tv revenue now goes on player wages. So a 'marquee' signing is unlikely unless we sell a player for a massive fee (like when we signed Benteke for 30m around the same time as we sold Bolasie for 26m).
Of course FFP comes into play too so the owners need to be mindful of that but its really about keeping a competitive team out on the pitch while paying for a new main stand while keeping within FFP rules while not letting the annual wage bill/running costs get out of control.

I imagine we probably have around 20m to play with in the tranfer market which means we are either looking for freebies, lower league cheap buys or looking at leagues in Europe that still consider 10m a lot of money (Belgium, Norway, Sweden, etc)

Failing that, if we spend big on a name player we will almost definitely need to sell to balance the accounts. Nearly every other club will be doing the same unless they are unconcerned with recieving a massive fine for breach of FFP

If fair play comes in the bournemouth and west ham are screwed and others like them will struggle. So expect bargain buys and the chance of ever getting 6th place becoming tougher each season. But every season in the prem helps the coffers. RLC on loan again looks obvious.

Bournemouth were fined ages ago but appealed the amount and the wheels of the legal process grind very slowly.

These relatively minimal fines are not a deterrent to clubs with rich owners as Bournemouth (for example) will just look at their £4.5m fine as the entry fee to the exclusive club of riches.

If the authorities really want FFP to work then they need to come up with better deterrents like a points deduction for example or perhaps refusing to sanction the purchase of a new player unless the club can prove that they are acting within FFP rules

^^ spot b0II0ck^^
FFP means nothing to the likes of Citeh and Chelski, who can simply absorb the fines.
And for clubs trying to get to the Prem, it is a calculated gamble to break the rules, because the rewards are so fantastic.
A points deduction looks the way to go. That will threaten their Prem status, or prize money. A cash fine or a player embargo means diddly-squat when you've spunked £50M on players and you've already got the Sky money in the bag.

As for Palace, I think the Board are finding it a tricky balance with players wages taking so much of the revenue.
I'm not sure there is an answer in attempting to level the playing field.
The people at the top of the game have no incentive to change anything. They have the cash, and that's it. The free market

Just a thought few, is it possible that we have more money than you think and we have put bids in for players but havnt been made public? Also mostof the players we will be after have very likely just come back from the world cup or still in it?

Looking at the books we are actually in a better position than most, our wages are generally not that high and as we only badly need 2 players (4 would be a bonus) then we have time to sniff around and not go crazy?

Teams like Wolves and Brighton desperatly need lots of players in lots of positions so they are buying anything they can get, we dont have too...stop worrying!!!

That really isn't the case, based on published accounts(2016/17):

"Palace also had the ninth highest wage bill in the division, with a yearly increase of 39 per cent taking their total to £111.8m, which was only exceeded by Europa League participants Southampton, Champions League participants Leicester City, and last season's top six sides"

[Link]

Also. I'd like to believe we're shopping in the Waitrose of World Cup participants, but I think it more likely that we're rummaging through the bargain bins at Aldi and Lidl.

This is a genuine problem that should have been fixed.

Poor administration and extremely unfair to clubs who run their business properly.

Aside from clubs just being able to front out the fines, the problem is like tax evasion, plug one loophole and some clever accountant finds another one. There are a few clubs who've found ways of injecting massive amounts of cash, but avoiding FFP, by the way it's shown in their accounts.

Yep....how long have we had this problem. There should be a cache all rule and only limited ways to contribute financially to a club. I've always been of the mind that where's there's a will, there's a way.

But I don't know how this works so these are just layman's moans.

I think the bargain bins of Aldi and Lidl can contain some decent stuff if you know what you are looking at. A nice metaphor for our esteemed transfer gurus to find us someone decent at a good price.
