Of course, Sporty was too modest to point out that the word ‘Astronaut’ is a compound word with Latin and Greek roots. ‘Astro’ - as in Astronomy, Astrology; and ‘Naut’ - as in Nautical. The word basically means ‘Star-sailor’. I don’t make this as an academic point, but one that’s a reminder of the spelling, Space travel has historically been thought of as akin to seafaring. Well before any were actually invented, space vehicles were called ‘SpaceSHIP’ or SpaceCRAFT’.

My thoughts that it's more like a time traveller. Espicially if you think about Christianity. Jesus is said to rise again or is it just that he will be born and then travel back in time with future technology to perform the so called miracles.

Someone with vastly superior technology would seem like a god to ancient man. Word of mouth stories told over generations could distort the memory and embellish it. It makes far more sense than the guff that religious types spout. The religious approach is to explain everything away by using the 'certainty' of God as a starting point and fitting the facts around it. Nice generalisation about "religious types". Pity it's wrong. I use the complexity and intricacy and natural order of creation as a starting point and deduce that it's unlikely to be an accident. But I'm fairly sure that you've classified me as "religious types".
