I seem to be in the minority here as I don't see what the fuss is about. This should always have been a crime so the law is just catching up. I guess those that think this an overkill would not mind some creep doing the same to one of their loved ones? As to the teenage boy's comment well like most laws the judge has some discretion. I think we can all agree there is a difference between a curious young boy and a middle aged repeat sex offender.

Agreed - I can't understand how or why anyone would oppose this; should have been made a crime years ago. Anyone who thinks it's just teenage boys doesn't have a clue what they're on about.

Who said that? No one did, don't disfigure the argument. It most definitely mostly teenage boys....get that, not 'just', instead it's mostly teenagers or very young men and anyone saying differently is deflecting the issue. Upskirting – the taking of surreptitious, sexually intrusive photographs – is to become a specific criminal offence punishable by up to two years in prison. This is a ridiculously harsh maximum punishment for this offence. This is something that is mostly the domain of immature teenage boys who require a reprimand, not a criminal record. More evidence of the emasculation of society. Any idea if they go on the register for it? Its really hard to see how its anything other than a sex offence... Also correct me if im wrong here but I would say the guiltiest people for this are actually the press. Without upskirt shots the daily star are in big trouble...

Not a good idea to criminise immature teenage boys for being immature teenage boys. There are definitely instances where it's more disturbing than that and that deserves looking at......But in most cases this is simply something that requires a reprimand and common sense. Common sense in this country appears to be dying out with the older generations.

I assume that immature boys will be treated far more leniently that repeated offenders/real perverts, and that is where the maximum sentence will be used. As for the hypocrisy of B-list starlets and the press coverage - well to me if you wear a skirt/frock split so high up your thigh that your breakfast can be seen from the bottom of the stairs, then there isn't too much to complain about (the 'all publicity is good publicity' theory probably applies here; that is a world away from your wife/daughter/sister being violated by a pervert taking upskirts as she bends over the freezer to get a bag of frozen peas in the supermarket. As Stirlingsays says, let's hope some common sense is applied in differentiating the two.
