I am sympathetic towards those whose contracts come to an end and are not renewed and can face a bleak future. Some of course will find league clubs, others will drop down to non-league but particularly for many with young families it is a very worrying time. Of course this occurs outside the 'World' of football but I am just trying to contrast this with the riches enjoyed by those in the PL. Edited by Willo (08 Jun 2018 12.21am)

A player's career can end overnight if they get a serious injury and some never progress after a bright start, so they have to make their money in a relatively small window. Personally I do think footballers are overpaid, like bank managers, F1 drivers, TV personalities, local council members and many more, but you can't blame a kid for wanting parity with his team mates. I can sympathise with his position in so much as if you are playing an active role in the first-team squad yet you are getting only a fraction of the wages of your team mates then it is going to bother you, especially if you know by moving club you could at least double the offer on the table from West Ham. Also, another factor could be that West Ham apparently gave Reece Oxford (a player with only 8 first-team appearances for West Ham) a contract worth £20k per week.

He has a current contract, which expires in 2020, so if WH want to play hard ball then he can be kept till then. He has turned down a new contract which was also probably an extension. There is currently no news in this story he is not about to leave West Ham unless they decide to sell transfer market think his value is about £9 million.

Nearly the exact same thing is happening at Man City with Joel Latibeaudiere.

Apparently us and Bournemouth are in for contract revel Declan Rice from West Ham. The connections in the article I read were quite tenuous and the article ended by saying that Bournemouth's need for central defenders was much greater than ours

I saw the headline and thought we had signed him but it's a 6ft 4 15-year-old from West Ham. Wonder how big he'll be when he stops growing?
