Germany have won many tournaments without sane and I'm sure they will too continue to thrive with or without him you don't become Germany's national team manager without being a very very good manager

walking down the holmesdale road to see the palace aces!

Was Raymond Domenech a good manager? And he became manager of France's national team.

he was France's longest serving manager and got them to a WC Final, if any manager did that with England they'd be hailed a genius

Eriksson had a fantastic squad of players, still managed to cock it up tho

Disagree in part with the original post, Sterling has actually been better than Sane for parts of the season.

The decision to leave Sane out, though, is nonsensical. He has the potential to go on and be the best in the world.

He may not have produced the goods on the international stage yet, and was poor against Austria by all accounts.

But a player of his quality will come good. He didn't end the season in sparkling form, but he's still a huge upgrade on Brandt.

Also agree that Low has taken too many centre mids. The argument that we can't criticise decisions made by managers/players etc as they are more qualified than us would render the whole premise of a forum as irrelevant.

I also agree with the original post, but largely disagree with you Tom about sterling. He may have better stats this season but Sané is a far better player, far more creative and better in just about every area apart from pace. The difference is like that between Townsend and Zaha. On that note, maybe we can convince Sané to do a "Zaha" if he has any English grandparents.

Well, 6 of those 12 caps came when he was 19 or 20. Really young and not that developed. The other 6 games with 1 assist came this year and 3 of them were against Spain, England and Brazil, tough fixtures in which the German national team only managed to score once. So it wasn't entirely his fault.

I think now at 22 this was his moment though, at this World Cup he would have massively improved his record for the NT. Especially against lower adversaries like the ones in the group. He's coming after a great year with Man City and he's on fire assisting. He would have made the difference for Germany.

If he can’t get in the 23 I doubt he would have got any game time, if he had gone.
Mental that he’s not good enough for a squad place, though.

There is a simple reason Sane wasn't picked - he has never performed well for Germany. His competition is as follows

Reus - World class. Consistently performed at domestic and international level for years. Obviously has major injury problems, but seems to be fit and firing and is probably the first name to be picked for Germany.

Draxler - Not had a great season on the bench at PSG but another who has always performed for Germany and Lowe when called up.

Brandt - Had a fantastic couple of seasons for Leverkeusen and again, performs well at international level so far.

Goretzka - Again, fantastic couple of seasons at domestic level and is also versatile enough to play in the middle.

Added to those four you have the "king of the tournaments" for Germany in Thomas Mueller who can also play on the wing if needed.

Sane's time will come, but he hasn't done enough in his brief international career to be picked over the above.

From what I've seen, most agree with the decision.

There is no way to justify Ozil, Draxler and Gorezka as being better for the national team! I think I could accept Reus getting the nod over him. Even Muller, because he offers a stamina and defensive contribution that not many players do. I'd even be willing to accept Brandt being in the squad because he;s really young and good for his age.
But Ozil, Draxler and Goretzka?? People are busting Sane for not playing very well for the national team. He's recently turned 22! 6 of his 12 caps came when he was 19 or 20, didn't have the great seasons with Man City. So let's not count those. In the other 6 caps that he had this year he provided 1 assist.

Let's see what the other "great" players did for the national team in the last year:

Draxler: 1 goal and 1 assist in 8 matches.
The guy barely has 6 goals and 6 assists in 2600 minutes played as left wing for the national team (that's worse than 1 in 200 minutes). He's 24 not 22 like Sane and is not that good at club level either.

Goretzka: 1 goal in 4 matches played as right midfielder for the national team. Seriously? That 1 goal in a 6-0 trashing of Norway counts more than all that Sane has done the entire season for Machester City??? 14 goals and 19 assists??

Brandt: 1 assist in 5 matches for the national team.

Where's the fairness in that???
