Copenhagen is like Heathrow and Malmö is like a Southend or a Oxford airport. It's not even close in terms of size or choice of airlines.

At the end of the day if it comes down to money then you have to factor in transfer costs (in the UK and this side) and so on.

Copenhagen is directly on the major train line, Malmö you need to get a bus into the city.

If you are going to the Halmstad game only you have the choice of Gothenburg but it's much the same problem.

If it were me, for either game, I would fly to Copenhagen with EasyJet (I would only fly RyanAir if I were fleeing a war zone and even then...) and stay in Sweden because it is cheaper than Denmark.

Helsingör is a 20 minute boat journey from where I live (Helsingborg) and Halmstad is a 51 minute train journey from here.

The train from Copenhagen Airport goes to Helsingör in one direction and to Helsingborg/Halmstad in the other direction so it's easy to take either option.

So it really boils down to which game you are taking in or if you are taking both in.

Here is part 1 of a 2 part guide for both games.

Excellent - thanks. I read somewhere that the Helsingor - Helsingborg ferry is the busiest in the world in terms of crossings so should be ok for options.

It is indeed. There are 3 ferries an hour (every 20 minutes) 24 hours a day plus some other smaller boats that go back and forth.

I think I read somewhere that there are 170 crossings daily.

It's in Halmstad, I'd fly to Copenhagen. Try Skyscanner.com.

I was thinking of going to the sweden game and fly to Gothenburg, and then get a train down - what’s Gothenburg like as a city and do you reckon it’s worth doing it that way?

Göteborg is a very nice city and if it's your thing they have a big amusement park there called Liseberg.

Personally I'd fly in to Copenhagen and stay in Helsingborg because EasyJet fly there from Gatwick but if you want to stay in Göteborg then it makes more sense to fly there.

There isn't much to do down here but as I say it all depends on what you're in to.

More like Gatwick I'd say, and I'd fly Norwegian rather than Easyjet.

I stayed in the Elite Hotel in the Marina in Helsingborg last year. I've stayed in the Radisson Blu there before too. Nice place, like most of the Nordic countries.

Optimistic as ever

Can only make the first game but match tickets booked and will felt to CPH. Will most stay on the Danish or Swedish side? Advice welcome

I'd suggest the Swedish side because it's cheaper here than in Denmark... However (an intellectual 'but') after you factor in travel to and from Sweden it might even itself out.

The ferry between Helsingör and Helsingborg (where I live) is 95 sek (about £8 return).

Naturally it all boils down to if you want to slum it or live a more luxury life style.

A room at a reasonable hotel in town can cost £85 a night whereas the Grand Hotel starts at about £130 a night.
