Reasonable point about funding the stand. But the surest way to fund it is to retain PL status for a few more seasons and especially if we finish decently mid table with the prize money bonus. A couple of mid table finishes as opposed to squeaky bum time means another 20 mill. With Wilf we're much much more likely to achieve that and so it would be extreme short termism to cash in now. Will Wilf go? Probably at some point. But it's very much in our financial interests to keep him for as long as poss. If he has a complete season next year and kicks on as a converted striker a la Salah then the big big boys may come in with mega offers and then we may be faced with losing him for an obscene amount. The good news is that Ivory Coast failed to qualify for the WC and so he's out of that shop window and the mega offers this year will be as in every World Cup year for players who shine there.

He has moved up another gear this season partly due to injuries to strikers and doesn't look out of place so £60m would seem a reasonable price based diver" repon his season BUT if there were a bidding war then . . . The thing is what price would SP and the board even start to get interested.. I'm guessing 100m we would have to look at it, I think Wilf will only ever leave when HE thinks it's right. We all at Palace love him and respect him, so I feel reasonably confident he will be with us for a few seasons yet.

Southampton: sold van Dyck. Nearly relegated. If we divest ourselves of Wilf we will go down the toilet. Results last season when he hasn't played bear that out. The question is not how much can we get for him, or with whom do we replace him, but WTF we do if he suffers a lengthy outage.

Fair assessment - I'd put a "hard to refuse" value at £75M

The ‘big clubs’ always insist on top prices when they want to unload players, even those who are miles away from the first team. If bids start coming in, it’s time for us to do as the big boys do, by sticking to an over-valuation and making them pay it or f*ck off. The new stand has been mentioned. This will be paid for by servicing loan debt (like buying a house). Whether we get a wad of cash for Wilf will be pretty irrelevant as far as achieving the new stand is concerned. As much as we adore Wilf, 2 points I want to make. 1. He could get injured at any time. & 2. We lose him for 6 weeks every 2 years (incl next season) for the ANC. Palace the business would be foolish to to refuse any "generous" offer for him now.

Selling a player with whom we had 0 points when he didnt play last year, would be absolutely farcical. For me, if Stoke are asking 50+ for butland, wilf is right up there in the 60-70m range. He is a game changer, fit, powerful and athletic, and scarily as we all know he still has room for improvement. I think he'd be a star under Pep, IF anywhere it would be best for us if Wilf went abroad!

Nail on the head, we are worryingly Wilf dependent if you look at results. I'd add that there's some sort of parallel with Spurs and Bale - up another level or two of course. Even when you do spend the cash on new players as they did and Swansea and Soton didn't,it's really hard to rebuild a team with new imports.Having too much money in the transfer kitty brings it's own problems as Everton too discovered.

I have absolutely no idea who we'd replace him with to get that same level of impact, or the confidence that the big money signing wouldn't be a comparative flop. For me, that makes him fairly priceless. If we were offered £70m, I guess you'd take it. Then probably sign Shaqiri and use the remainder to sign a couple of top players who you'd hope hit the ground running and move us up a level.

The only players I could think of would be Messi, Salah, perhaps Sane like any of those would be coming to Palace anytime soon. Maybe Rashford? The other problem is that whilst these might be good players and could do a job, the difference with Wilf is that he plays for the badge and (said he) wants to be at Palace whereas the others would be just looking for the contract. Shaqiri more or less failed to turn up in a relegation decider so no thank you. If we can't answer the question "WTF do we do if he's not available" then a fortiori we are not in a position to sell.
